Quote from: ChamberNut on February 18, 2025, 08:56:30 AMOh....My....Goodness. Words cannot properly be used to express the unbelievable beauty of this music! Even if all 21 remaining discs of yet unheard music were the most uncouth, sour, ugly music my ears ever set on, I would STILL recommend this box set without hesitation. 9 home runs, so far.

Disc 9

Ockeghem

Johannes Ockeghem is one of the very big names of Early Music!  :)

The others are (IMO): Guillaume de Machaut, Guillaume Dufay, Josquin des Prez (Desprez) and (Roland de) Lassus.

One of the best sets I know!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

LOL!  :D  You guys are killing me!  8)   I already own half of these discs, so do I need the remaining 12 of Psalms, which are hard to find at a decent price (been searching and $80 or so $USD would be my cost - too much - may listen to them just once)? NOW, about to be released is the 3-disc set below on Brilliant w/ a 'sampling' of the 150 Psalms (recordings are from the 1980/90s but w/ some excellent people - Amazon description attached) - at any rate, I've setup a Spotify playlist of both recordings and will take a listen.  Thanks!  Dave

Cool piece!

I was just going through the Nagano traversal about a month ago and loved every minute of it. Such an amazing composer.

A friend in LA just wrote: ...one of my professors was an assistant to him... said he'd go into his office and he had scraps of music manuscript clipped to clothes lines, and he'd move them around till he found the best order...
