Frederic Chopin.
Complete Piano Works.
CD III.
Ballades 1-4.
Impromptu 1-3.
Fantasie Impromptu in C sharp minor.
Recorded: 174, Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

The Third CD from this excellent set, with the gorgeous Ballades and the superb Fantasie impromptu in C sharp minor. The sound from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw orkest is amazing, a warm bloom and yet detailed. Magaloff is musician pur sang, and the right pianist for Chopin.
Did anyone know this,  that Maurice Ravel said, "In Magaloff a great, a truly extraordinary musician is born" and at the age of three he was stimulated by Serge Prokofiev, a friend of the Magaloff family, who already heard the genius in him! Just sayin.

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

We have already moved from post-truth to post-thought...  ;D

When I'm listening to some of Schumann's music, the twilight world of Ralph Albert Blakelock's paintings come to mind. Like this gorgeous one for example:

The big problem is not that an idiot can say/post the most blatant lies or the most unbelievable nonsense on social media; the big problem is that there are lots of idiots out there who believe them to be true. Reason is impotent against this tidal wave of aggressive ignorance. The Enlightenment project is as good as dead.

According to Aristotle, democracy stands just a step away from ochlocracy — mob rule — and ochlocracy, in its chaos, eagerly calls for a tyrant.

Quote from: Que on June 05, 2025, 05:10:00 AMI'd have to explain this to people many times. :D  And that the "Dutch" do not come from "Danmark", but live in "the Netherlands", also known as "Holland". Not blaming anyone - it's all utterly confusing.. in English, mind you. 8)

Another confusing name is "Dutch" apple pie in the US. Which is actually German Apfelstreuselkuchen.

A REAL traditional Dutch apple pie (appeltaart) does not have a crumble topping and looks like this:

It also tastes different.

And it's delicious!

In Greek the country is Ολλανδία, Hollandia. No confusion where der fliegende Holländer comes from!

Incidentally, there was a question yesterday in the final round of a Greek television knowledge quiz show about your national anthem. No one got it right.

The means to mass influence are unparalleled, unfortunately most of us are empty vessels for others to drum on. :o

As a bonus I had some time to play a few Nocturnes. And what great bonus it is, for I never heard them any better played, even though we are on the minority on GMG thinking that. No matter the more for us.... ;D

And several years ago, in a quiz show in Spain, in which random people on the street are asked questions on behalf of the contestant, a young guy was asked "what is the national flower of Holland?", to which he, after much hesitation, answered "marihuana?".

Now Harry there are a lot of excellent recordings of the Nocturnes on both period and modern instruments but as a lover of these works, Spotify has the Magaloff Chopin box (a pianist I knew not) and I'll have to take a listen - thanks.  Dave :)
