When I'm listening to some of Schumann's music, the twilight world of Ralph Albert Blakelock's paintings come to mind. Like this gorgeous one for example:

The big problem is not that an idiot can say/post the most blatant lies or the most unbelievable nonsense on social media; the big problem is that there are lots of idiots out there who believe them to be true. Reason is impotent against this tidal wave of aggressive ignorance. The Enlightenment project is as good as dead.

I'd have to explain this to people many times.   And that the "Dutch" do not come from "Danmark", but live in "the Netherlands", also known as "Holland". Not blaming anyone - it's all utterly confusing.. in English, mind you.

Another confusing name is "Dutch" apple pie in the US. Which is actually German Apfelstreuselkuchen.

A REAL traditional Dutch apple pie (appeltaart) does not have a crumble topping and looks like this:



It also tastes different.

And it's delicious!

In Greek the country is Ολλανδία, Hollandia. No confusion where der fliegende Holländer comes from!

Incidentally, there was a question yesterday in the final round of a Greek television knowledge quiz show about your national anthem. No one got it right.

Incidentally, there was a question yesterday in the final round of a Greek television knowledge quiz show about your national anthem. No one got it right.

And several years ago, in a quiz show in Spain, in which random people on the street are asked questions on behalf of the contestant, a young guy was asked "what is the national flower of Holland?", to which he, after much hesitation, answered "marihuana?".

P.S. BIS gets all 5 on 2 discs and packages in a thin cardboard wallet; unfortunately, like some similar products from them that I've purchased, the dimensions are about and 1/8 inch off to fit into my usual CD storage boxes - should have made them the size of a jewel box, but my nitpicking -
