Apparently he's not Ultra Warrior but Roger Corman was involved.

An IMDB review

And another

Another review mentions George Peppard and David Carradine as among the actors cut and pasted from other movies.

Strangers on a Train (1951, dir. Alfred Hitchcock). How have I never seen this movie? Who knows, who cares, it's fantastic.

Mister Sharpe

One of Rolling Stone magazine's Top 100 films of the 21st century. Park Chan-wook's Decision to Leave is a boldly complex tale of Hitchcockian obsession with absolutely brilliant acting and cinematography. Not to mention subtle touches of humor.  Quite moving, actually; just don't blame me if you fall hopeflessly in love yourself with the perp.

Oh yes. I saw that a year or two ago and it was great! I mean, I don't even remember what happened in the end, I just remember it was a great ride.

PS Now I want to go look at the Rolling Stone list.

PPS Okay, I think I've seen a third of them. And there are some VERY good films in there, plus a few I have mixed feelings about but I know a lot of people really like them... and one that I just couldn't stand.

Thanks Madiel. Ha-ha; there were quite a few in that list I felt didn't belong (but hey, the century is still young)!  Which was the one you couldn't stand?

Punch-Drunk Love. I couldn't finish it.

The list does have a bunch of films I consider classics.

I admire your courage; I wouldn't go anywhere near it.  I do see it made several other Best of lists. Not tempted, thanks.  ;D

But the same director is also responsible for There Will Be Blood, which is excellent. And I also like Magnolia. And I have interest in some of his other films.

Hmm, interesting...I've not seen it.  Must fix that.

Roasted Swan

Bad mistake.  I believed the generally very positive reviews and went to see the latest Naked Gun with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson.  It is shockingly poor.  For only the 2nd time in my life I walked out of a movie I've paid to see..  They try so hard to recreate the dead-pan absurdities of Police Squad and the original movies but all it goes to prove is how hard it is to write and perform what seems on the surface like quite simple movies.  It is so laboured and genuinely awful.  I went home to watch some of the originals to see if it was my taste in humopur has changed.  Probably I don't find them as funny as I once did but they are all a hundred times better than this abject monstrosity.....

But what do I know it gets a stonking 90% on Rotten Tomatoes......

Yes indeed, 'There Will Be Blood' is one of my favourite films. But I've never seen a Paul Thomas Anderson film that wasn't thoroughly engaging. Boogie Nights (though I'm not sure I could watch that anymore), Licorice Pizza, Phantom Thread etc, so I must say am rather interested in Punch Drunk Love.

That's interesting, I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and we walked past a poster for the new Naked Gun film, and I said I was looking forward to seeing it as it had had such a glowing endorsement from Rotten Tomatoes. And he said exactly the same thing as you, he thought it was a complete travesty. I admit my ardour has more or less been fatally dampened by the comments, so thanks for taking one for the team as they say.

I thought as much. The original people wanted to make a sequel and were turned down, but the studio appointed Seth McFarlane instead. I expected it would be like a live-action Family Guy instead of like a Naked Gun movie.

But despite Mel Brooks being almost a century old, he is making Spaceballs 2, and that should be good!

Last night: African Queen. It's not the Bogart movie I turn to most often, but it's always richly rewarding. Bogart's facial reaction when Hepburn says, "thank heaven for your strength" ranks with his best acting moments.
