I don't know why exactly, but this documentary reminded me of @Madiel and @Todd lol

The Risky World of Hardcore Bingo:

Niche subjects, for me, always make the most interesting documentaries, and this is about as niche as it gets, and you will meet some real characters - well worth the minimal time investment. :)

Watched two more documentaries on bingo, man, it is seedy and odd.

Unironically, the documentaries are pretty dark.

As a counterbalance - the most Australian movie ever made - it is what introduced me to Bana - The Castle

Or is Animal Kingdom, another film based solely on a working-class family, the most Australian?

Animal Kingdom is superb.  It's much better than the TV series, which I gave up on after twenty or so minutes.

For the most Australian movie, perhaps consider the romance (?) Tim, with a sexy young Mel Gibson as a proto-quasi-Forrest Gump. I've not seen it, but maybe after a couple Fosters it could be viewable.

I was watching an interview with a very famous, but young, Australian skateboarder - his mind was blown when he found out that Mel Gibson was Australian, lol.

Yes, Animal Kingdom is an excellent film - not only is the soundtrack out of this world - its integration of real-world music might be the best I've seen yet - I mean they made Air Supply sound sinister - that's a mean feat. :)

I think he's American, or at least he was born in the US.  I could be wrong.

Given how much I had to listen to that band as a kid - they were my sister's favorite band - I have a tendency to view them as sinister to this day.

Lol, I took that interview at face value without fact checking - apparently, he just grew up there. Eh, they can have him.

I got lucky with my "sister" growing up - she was into heavy metal. >:D

I read Tim many years ago. It's by Colleen McCullough. All things considered, it's a better (and much more concise) novel than The Thorn Birds, albeit not as good as some of her Roman novels.

The title character isn't really a Forrest Gump type; he's young and mentally handicapped, and no one presents him as anything else. The heroine is an normal middle-aged woman. They fall in love, and at the end marry. Most of the novel consists (from what I remember) of the heroine convincing herself and the two families that she's not crazy and nothing sinister is going on.

I think I've never seen the movie, so I have no idea of how sexy Gibson might have been. I think it was his first major role.

Want something on in the background, so I picked the Hellraiser with the greatest cenobite: Hellraiser 3, with the CD cenobite:

It also stars Terry Farrell, in the lead role, and Paula Marshall, in the supporting:

Ah, the marital-art stuntperson vanity pic - a stalwart of the 1980s and 1990s - Quiet Fire (1991)

This is one of the better vanity pics because rather than focus on the stunts it focused on the narrative. Now, the narrative isn't strong, but it was coherent and cohesive, and both of those go a long, long way to making a movie watchable. It also helps that he surrounded himself with actors/actresses, b-level, but legitimate, which means they know how to get the job done. Yes, the dialogue was a bit silly and stiff, and the lead's delivery was ham-fisted and delivered with the charisma of a plastic bag, but it was - watchable. I only came across it because Karen Black has a bit role in it, and she is always worth watching, and this role is no different. All in all, I didn't mind watching.

Well it's based on a bunch of criminals and murder. We're not all convicts, you know.

I can't really have an unbiased view of Animal Kingdom. Though I appreciate what it did for Jackie Weaver.

EDIT: Strictly Ballroom is a very Australian movie, and can only make people feel good things.

SECOND EDIT: This is an interesting list, though there are a lot of things I haven't yet seen (including one I actually have queued up to watch in the next week or so). https://www.timeout.com/film/the-best-australian-movies-you-need-to-watch

Just watched three "horror" movies in a row - not a single scary thing in any of them, although, like most horror films, they were based on a cool concept, but they simply couldn't pay it off. I was especially disappointed with Frozen, as it had the coolest concept, as I cannot think of any other film based on that premise. All three were snoozefests.

Last one for the morning, currently just a little past 4 AM: Alone

The first twenty or so minutes of this film are some of the tensest moments I've seen on screen, and I was hoping for something special - to take the path less travelled, as it were, but they took the Hollywood route and made the antagonist a villain like any other, and it became another snoozefest, and the most disappointing one of the batch because the promise was there - just a person who was so annoyed by a perceived slight that they would travel to the ends of the earth to complain ala George Costanza from Seinfeld, but, nope, just another humdrum killer, although, the killer does present menace well, so the acting is top notch. This is definitely a recommend, if you like this style of film - it is is solid, through-and-through.

I am very excited for this film - The Sand - all because of the slug:

After an all-night graduation party, college students awaken to a carnivorous beach that devours anything with a heartbeat that touches the sand.

This was awesome! It delivered everything and more. The best death was an hour in, and the end even took a direction that I was not expecting.

High recommendation for enjoyers of the genre, so much fun. The two lead women are also unbelievably gorgeous but also like the only two useful people in the party, lol.

Following the lead, next up is Lantern's Lane:

Lantern's Lane was a snoozefest. Don't bother with it.

Need to end my morning - it is past midnight here - with a bang, so I chose how the 1990s envisioned the future in Fortress starring Christopher Lambert! You cannot go wrong with that combo.

Also, look at that tagline - badass. 8)
