Yes, so did I.

One of life's conspiracy theorists - and blindingly quick to detect a slight on his character or nationality (usually imaginary) - but I liked him (a lot.)  So what if he called me an ignorant philistine and declared eternal enmity based on my expressing a liking for a certain conductor in a certain work (can't remember which.)  I've had a lot worse - and what's more, from people who actually meant it.

Yes - bring back M, say I!

Just how many M attacks were you subject to, Choo Choo?

I don't recall you being around much on the old board and hence were rather insulated from his maulings.

Those who weren't so lucky DON'T share your enthusiasm. It's darn near an affront, really, to cheerlead like this.

M got HIMSELF banned. Right? Or is he simply the innocent, here?

That seems to be the implication...that we're all too uptight and ran him out.

Wrong.

M is his own worst enemy. He did himself in.

Period.

However, this is all really moot as M has an open invitation to return to GMG any time he wants. No one's banned anymore, remember?

Let him come back. If he doesn't, that's his choice.

Otherwise...good folks, give this a rest for crying out loud....

Nigel left for a number of reasons, not just the banning of certain members, though that is what he deplored most - especially, I think, when the choice of those who were banned, tended to be those who were most outspoken, not necessarily though who were most malicious, for example.

you should know....

Absolutely.  If M chooses to come back, that's fine (by me) - and if he doesn't, that's also fine (by me).

I just wanted to make the point, that not everybody thinks it's desirable to have an environment where conflict is forbidden.

You may not remember me, but I was around.  That you didn't notice me does not surprise me at all.

I had my run-ins with M.  And you know what sticks in my mind?  One time I posted something about a piece of music which I thought I knew well - and M responded, not offensively, but forcibly, to point out a mistake I'd made - so I checked.  And you know what?   He was right.  So I posted an acknowledgement of that.  And you know what?  He was gracious about it.  I wish all who post here could show such graciousness.   I have had much less generous treatment from some of those who are here today.

So yes - I would like to see M return.  If he feels like it.  If not, then fine.

I DO  NOT NEED THAT KIND OF ANGER HERE OR ANYWHERE.

In case he does come back here, the best way for you to avoid getting angered is to scroll past his posts. It's as simple as an index finger on the scroll bar!  ;D

Choo Choo

I don't understand why you feel so angry about this, and I don't wish to increase that anger.

But the point you seem to be missing is this:  I don't mind (in the least) the way that M used to behave, because I know that there is no malice behind it.  It is just the way he is.  You have to discount the outward display.  Behind it is a person of real value.

There are people in the forum today who offend me far more deeply than M ever did.  People who posted offensive remarks directed personally at me - yes, even little me.  One time, I posted a mild remark, not signifying very much, about a well-known piece of music - to which one individual chose to post something highly personal, derogatory and insulting.  That person has been posting here today.

I repeat:  bring back M!

Hmm...I hadn't noticed the neutrality before...

QuoteI just wanted to make the point, that not everybody thinks it's desirable to have an environment where conflict is forbidden.

Then what would be so wrong with my disagreeing with you?

QuoteYou may not remember me, but I was around.  That you didn't notice me does not surprise me at all.

I do remember you. I don't remember you being a target for M's concentrated attacks like others were.

QuoteI had my run-ins with M.

But that changes NOTHING as far as M's maliciousness towards other posters!!!!!!!!

But I though a conflict-free environment was deplorable to you? ;D

You can always look him up, no?? ;D

What is the point of this?

"I'm immune to M but it's true I get offended by others"...?

You've lost me...

Seems to me if you're harbouring resentment (maybe too harsh a word...) for someone on GMG then you MUST know how some of us feel about M!!!!!!

Besides, like I said, if you deplore "conflict-free" environments then why in the world would you be offended by a GMGer snipping at you?

I would think this would be right up your alley! ;D ;D

don't you think that answering not offensively is a normal thing...I don't quite understand where your coming from....Your saying that because he answered normally that makes all his arrogance and anger o.k. ?? I DON'T AND DON'T MIND SAYING I HOPE HE DOES NOT COME BACK...PERIOD...I DO  NOT NEED THAT KIND OF ANGER HERE OR ANYWHERE. AS IT IS WE STILL HAVE SOME BACK THAT WE HAVE TO BABY SIT FOR......
Is Saul back?

We're doing fine.

Look.  I don't care whether M returns or not.  That's up to him.  But I do care about being somewhere that doesn't have room for someone like him.  Because - in my experience - he was not the worst. What it's looking like to me is: does your face fit?  If his doesn't, then maybe mine doesn't either.

I was wondering if Michel was M...probably not.

On the question of former valued members, well this just seems to be just another example of the trend in anything in the arts today- things tend to deteriorate.

But another thought is that when people who're very knowledgeable in particular areas are through with strutting their stuff, and indeed there were some extremely knowledgeable and extended threads on the old forum, the motive falls a little. The quality here derives from many members actually have something to say... It'd be nice for them to stick around for socializing though.

knight66

Michel and M are two completely different people.
