Morning!

Your new signature confused me for a minute there Harry! (Easily done...) Thought I'd come to the wrong thread!  ;D

I've been listening to lots of non-classical music the past few days, including these gems:

TTFN.
Me.

I'm shocked to see Harry post in non-classical thread!  :o

Some time ago you didn't like opera, now Laura Pausini. What next? The Prodigy;D

:
:

I listened to Tangerine Dream's Phaedra today.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Hmmmm, well of course you are right Poju, but to be honest, I was present at the live tour 2003 from Laura Pausini in Italy, invited by a friend of mine with the beautiful name of Cecilia, and no not Bartolli, and captivated by the fine lyrics and well organized music, I fell like a block as they say for her musical charms.
Opera is still a difficult issue with me, although less as it was before, and I played Wagners complete oeuvre thrice now, as the Complete Puccini, Rossini, and many others.
But I simply could not resist Pausini.......who could?

I see. You waited for 5 years to give in to your "guilty pleasure".  ;)

On Saturday I picked up a 1993-vintage mastering of the one in the upper right hand corner-good stuff.

Harry - I'm as shocked as Poju:o  You've really been taken in 'hook, line, & sinker' by this Italian pop singer! Do you own all of those albums shown?  I listened to a few YouTube videos of her - pleasant like an Olivia Newton-John, but was not 'bowled over' - however, 'live' concerts can be convincing - any of those albums that you might recommend as a 'starter'?

Thanks - Dave  :)

Evening!

Back to the classical stuff tomorrow. In the meantime I'm paying tribute to the wonderful Freddie Hubbard with this great disc:

SonicMan46

Mississippi John Hurt (1893-1966) - Avalon Blues: The Complete 1928 Okeh Recordings - Hurt was a great finger-picking guitarist w/ the voice of a 60s folk singer, BUT these are '28 recordings, which have been remastered a number of times - this is the best set that I've ever heard (and the fourth that I have purchased) - if you don't believe that the folk musicians from the mid-20th century, such as Bob Dylan, did not study these older Delta artists, you must give this disc a listen - REALLY!  ;D

John Hurt lived around Avalon, MS (hence the album name above), and was 'lost' after these early recordings until the early 60s - then, during the blues rediscovery period, he made a number of studio recordings which are collected on a 3-CD set (shown below, right) - these could have been easily put on 2-CDs, but he sounds virtually the same but w/ obviously better recorded sound; single CD compilations are available, so a total of two discs would suffice to cover this man's career -  :)

Because all they did was repackage the original single-disc releases. Put disc 1 in your computer and it will come up as the Today! album, not as The Complete Studio Recordings disc 1.  Vanguard's complete Buddy Guy and Big Mama Thornton were done the same way.

Wait. Are MN Dave and George actually the same person?

(Also, "Great American Songwriters: Johnny Mercer", a lovely compilation featuring Eartha Kitt, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman.)

k.d. lang: Shadowland - Still an alltime fave, and I am recalling with pleasure the reactions in the late 1980s when this disc emerged.  Lang's expressiveness and clarity, throughout her range, are quite amazing.  One (minor) quibble: the CD is just 35 minutes long.
