As some of you know, we are big Disney geeks in our family.  When we hit Disney World, we always make it point to eat at the Sci-Fi Diner at the Hollywood Studios.  It is a kick eating out of a booth shaped like a car while we watch B sci-fi/horror trailers. Well, started something new here at the homestead.  Each weekend I am featuring a different "B" sci-fi or horror film that the whole family sits down and watches.  Commnentary during the film is encouraged and "big" prizes were given out during the viewing.  (This way, the rest of my family will actually show up for the flick.)  This weeks Sci-Fi Diner film (stole this name from Disney World) was The Monster That Challenged the World from 1957.

What a hoot.  We had a grand time as I passed out gummy eyeballs, gummy lizards, and Pop Rocks (the really big prize) during the film. Add to this buttered popcorn and my seven year old daughter telling one of the actors, "Don't go in there!" and you have a perfect "drive-in" evening at home.

On a trivia note, it starred Tim Holt, the character Curtain from The Treasure of Sierra Madre.

Next week:

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Terminator 2 (!) late at night after returning from an aha (!!) concert. Terribly dated movie compared to how I remember it as new.

Woah, I learned something today. I am a serial Googler, and felt compelled to look up a-ha when you mentioned them, because I knew nothing about them. Until now I seriously assumed they were from the UK like Duran Duran and other similar groups ???
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Great songs - I'm to old to be a fan (59!) but there's something monumental and grand about their best songs - 26000 spectators and a great stage rig. Morten Harket is one of the great singers in popular music, and he was in great voice floating the high notes in "Summer moved on" magnificently.

Their farewell tour and a last chance to see them live. And I resent the comparison to Duran Duran ! :(

I think Hunting High and Low is the only a-ha album that made a splash in the UK and US, and you hear "Take On Me" on the radio still, so the Duran Duran comparison isn't too off base from our POV. I've actually not heard their other albums, but I like this kind of music and should probably give them a try. :)

I didn't say he would drop them if you turned on the sound.

::)

Anyway, turning on the sound made everything worse for me. A-Ha's video for Take On Me was cool, but there were far better artists in the 80s.

I love Berman, Philo. Especially Winter Light.

I watched this today:

Screenplay by Woody Allen, but not terribly funny. It was fun, though. Lots of beauties in this one too.  0:)
