Primer Movie – Scene by Scene Explanation

Thanks for that link!
Primer is a good film, just a bit challenging to understand.

Watched this expecting to see some type of fantasy movie (such as a movie I really liked called "Mirrormask"), but instead got something quite different.  The message of the film is depicted quite clearly, and it's the truth: evil, psycopathic men are the rulers of the world and the only escape is through fantasy (or one's own mind).

Also noteworthy is the constant blue and black color palette. Those are my favorite colors, so I'm not complaining!  8)

No, it's a recent movie skewering baxploitation flix of the '70s like DOLOMITE!! Absolutely the most perfect movie you will ever see! I love when they scientifically study '70s bad acting!

Rudy Ray Moore!!!

Truly, anyone with an "all-girl army of kung-fu killers" cannot be all bad!

Ice Station Zebra: watch Patrick McGoohan dominate every scene he has, especially those with Rock Hudson.  Trivia: Howard Hughes was obsessed with the movie, and apparently watched it once a day or more in his declining years.

And what have I seen today:

Speaking of scene-stealers, James Marsden as the not-too-bright Prince Edward has a manic energy reminiscent of John Astin as Gomez Addams.

And the opening cartoon satire on Snow White is not to be missed: the King-Kongian ending is too much, and sort of spoils things, but otherwise a fun movie.

Kick-Ass is, well, kick-ass.  Definitely exceeded my expectations.  Nicholas Cage and Mark Strong give great hammy performances, and young Chloë Grace Moretz is extremely good.  Hyperviolent, over the top, and perhaps a bit unsettling in how Ms Moretz's character acts and is treated by adults, but a rollicking good time, nonetheless.

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Are there any movies out there like Serial Experiments Lain? I want to watch a weird movie, but the two I watched recently (The Exorcist and Pan's Labyrinth) were not nearly weird enough for me.

Specifically, something like Serial Experiments Lain:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0500092/

Suggested movies similar to Lain (list included The Matrix, which I've already seen):
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (memory theme)
Donnie Darko (general weirdness like Lain)
Memento (memory)
Johnny Pnemonic (Wired)
A Scanner Darkly (very weird)

Memento I plan to watch eventually... A Scanner Darkly sounds good. Hmmm?...

I don't think you'll necessarily find anything on that level, Lain is so unique and being animation makes even more so. I've seen films that are equally surreal that definitely create more questions than answer, but still nothing on par.

For some reason, I have a very strong urge to rewatch an episode or two of this show every now and then (which I ended up just doing). It gets better the more you watch it, for sure. Something about the way it starts off, with the unusual color palette and the low humming noise just kills me. It's the perfect thing to watch after being subjected normal stuff all day.

Now, one movie with trippy scenes that I liked was Renegade (aka "Blueberry"). It had more of a spiritual vibe to its trippiness (not saying that Lain can't induce that). Any decent movie with weird visuals and general confusion is something I'd like to see (something that I might see on IMDB's top 250, or at least generally well-received).

Memento is one of my favorites...I show it to my Intro to Philosophy students every semester. A Scanner Darkly is also worth watching. Here are a few suggestions for really weird but great movies:
Enter the Void
Lost Highway
In the Realms of the Unreal
Clean, Shaven

Quote from: Greg on July 28, 2012, 09:54:41 AMI don't know how anyone could find this film "scary," or why it's the "scariest movie of all time" (and yes, I tried watching at night, by myself with the lights off)  ::). In that sense, I was let down, but as a film, it's actually pretty cool, as long as you skip the first 40 minutes.

I too was very disappointed by the "scariest movie of all time".

Kurosawa's THRONE OF BLOOD  - Chinese? 'issue' (but not Bo Ying) of the Criterion edition.
Very interesting commentary, helped clarify the action.    In samurai garb all forces look the same.
I was a bit surprised to note some negative scratches.

"Decent movie" is the problem here!  How about a movie that starts you off with large rabbits in a living room who speak in unfunny riddles while an audience laughs hysterically?

Weird, general confusion reigns, but is it decent?  6.9 at IMDB.

I'm a little bias when it comes to Lynch, I even like Dune, and Inland Empire might be as weird, and somewhat incoherent as Lynch gets, but still very good in my book.

Those rabbit scenes are actually from a short film that Lynch made, I've been looking or it for a while now but I don't think it's ever been released, it possibly could become the best film with humans in rabbit costumes ever made.

Apart from a scene or two which strike me as just de trop, I like Dune very well, too.

I looked up a video of the rabbits on youtube, and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Whoa.  :o

Can soft-core pornography be "weird" ?

Well, sure: and written by film critic Roger Ebert!!!

But is it good?
