The MBTA had suspended all service earlier than I might have been on the train, so I am at home, Sarge. Thanks for checking!

Is this the point where the call Bruce Willis?

"Yippie-Ki-Yay MotherF-----!"

I appreciate the light touch . . . of course, Bruce is always trying to fix problems which tend to be compounded by ill-considered police participation.   This is no such matter; all our people are doing a fine, noble job, and we are immensely proud of them.

Everything in Boston and several surrounding communities is locked down.

Up until a year ago, my wife worked in Watertown where all the search activity is, and those streets are very familiar to us. I believe I saw her old parking spot on one of the television shots. (As a musical aside, it's not terribly far from from St. James Armenian Church where Alan Hovhaness was organist.)

It appears my son may have played basketball against the suspect they're searching for in high school. I can't remember if I had my camera with me that day or not.

Karl and Szykneij, it is amazing to hear about the scant degrees of separation between you two guys and this terrible event.  It's horrible to hear about it and all the suffering; but it can seem dreamlike and distant with all the media noise, televised water-treading, etc.  More concrete and a bit shocking to hear about the nearness of the tragedy to your lives.  Especially what you've said, Szykneij...amazing, in such a big town.

It's been a very surreal few days. Thankfully, public school kids are on vacation here, so keeping them home wasn't a factor to worry about. As a result, I'm off from work, too, but my wife ventured into her office which is located in a community on the other side of the "lock inside" area.
She ended up coming back home and had the eerie experience of traveling back on multi-lane Route 2 and being the only vehicle on the road. She normally turns down Pleasant Street which she usually calls "Unpleasant" Street because of the heavy traffic, but that wasn't an issue today.

Absolutely. She got home in record time, but I think she'll find the traffic a bit more bearable when we get back to normal.

I cross my fingers for all your Boston guys and girls.
It's a nerve-wracking situation.
Just hoping that the 19-old Tsarnajev will turn himself in or gets caught by the cops, without more killings.

My thoughts are with you Boston folks today.

This suspect on the run is young, and alone. He'll turn up soon, lets just hope he turns up quietly and with little to no harm to anyone else.

Thanks for the friendly thoughts, all!

I hope they apprehend him alive. The problem with dead perpetrators is that they can't tell you how they tick and how they went from normal to sociopath.

A friend of mine is in lockdown in Watertown as well.

It was clearly his brother's influence. All he would be able to do is give details about how his brother changed over time and ended up influencing him (he was a great guy before his brother influenced him).

He is presumably armed, since a shoot-out was reported with police.  It is possible that Suspect #2 has committed suicide by now.

The uncle of the pair, in an interview available on CNN video, characterizes them as "losers" who could not settle themselves and who hated anyone who did.

Given that the dead brother was wearing an explosive device at the time of his death, which apparently he hadn't had an opportunity to detonate, I find it hard to imagine that any law enforcement agent will walk up to the surviving brother and handcuff him...  not that I disagree with your sentiment, but it's hard to imagine it working out that way....  :-\

I have an uncle who lives in Waltham and another who lives in Belmont (for those who are not from the area, those are towns immediately next to Watertown).   Uncle Waltham says there's a massive police presence, with enough armored vehicles, etc., to resemble Baghdad  (this was at noontime).

On the other side of the family, my cousin's son in law is a medical volunteer every year for the Marathon,  and therefore was one of the medical folks helping the victims at the bombing site on Monday (he was not injured, even though he was positioned close by.)  His description of it also invoked war zones.

Your advice is always the same, no matter the problem. Hope springs eternal, I guess.   :D

Like the others I hope they take him alive; some valuable information may be gained this way and it will also help his family get some peace.  Unfortunately, as Gurn suggested, this may not be likely.

I hope those of you in Boston are doing well.  You might as well spend your time on lock down to listen to some music, or at least spend some extra time with us. ;)
