Hi John,

I think yours should definitely be 'Shostakovich'.  Deep down in your heart, I think he is your favourite composer!   :)

Shostakovich is definitely one of my favorite composers, Ray. No question about it. BTW, haven't seen you on here in awhile. I hope all is well with you. I suppose it's starting to warm up in Winnipeg by now, eh?

Voyage of the Acolyte

Great album. Have you heard Spectral Mornings? This is one of his best IMHO.

Hm, I don't believe I've heard Voyage of the Acolyte.  I remember being "under-impressed" with Cured and Till We Have Faces . . . much later, finding the cassette cheap, I thought I'd take a chance with Spectral Mornings, and I loved it straight off.

You're just trying to trick John into having Bach for his avatar  ;D

Get rid of Barber.

Get rid of any composer or person anyway.

Choose this one:

Well, uh, at least he got rid of Barber.

As for suggestions .... here's my final word:

Sergeant Rock

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Me too. Most clever so far...
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Yes, sir. Voyage of the Acolyte through Defector are some of his finest, but as I also mentioned I really enjoyed his newer recordings. Have you heard any of those, Karl?

FYI, Voyage of the Acolyte is notable for being the 'lost' Genesis record, but it's still Steve through and through. I highly recommend this album. It was recorded during a short hiatus between Genesis' A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering.

Thanks for all the avatar suggestions, but I think I'll stick with Steve Hackett for awhile.

Ken B

It has come to my attention that a cool avatar was available, so I snarfed it. Whadya think?

You thief! :P But seriously, it doesn't matter. I love my Hackett avatar and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. I'll leave it up at least through April, then I might switch it to another one of my musical heroes.

BTW, Ken, your Barber avatar didn't look as clean as mine. Just so ya know! :)

I'm thinking about making Martinů my permanent avatar. I certainly seem to go through a lot of Martinů phases each year and the flare ups are unpredictable.
