Of course I'm not really considering this, as I have too many cds already (including a new Mozart Sonata cyle).  But if I were considering this, going for 77 Euros from German Amazon, and $103 at ImportCD, is there some reason why it would not be considered the wonderful bargain it seems to be at first glance?  Thanks.

Look like a good set with a good choice of recordings.  :)

What occurred to me with all these mega sets is: how do you keep track what is in it? ::) ???

Great recordings by top ensembles/conductors. Wide range selection reaching over five centuries from the Renaissance to the present.  If you like choral music you cannot go wrong. It really is the perfect choral anthology - kind of like the Norton Anthology of Literature Choral Music. Composers such as Victoria, Ockeghem, Byrd, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Handel, Schubert, Brahms, Mendelsohn, Verdi, Mahler, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Elgar, Britten, Janacek, Orff, Part and much more.  A very broad selection. If you are more into symphonic pieces I would pass. I like it quite a bit!   :)   You need it Baklavaboy!!!!   >:D >:D
All the texts/lyrics are included on a separate cd which definitely is a bonus! All the cd sleeves are the same - black, black, black..   :'( :'(

Remember this choral box?  30 discs, very similar material.  1/2 the price.

I don't know that I trust you, Moonfish (or Ken B!).  You remind me of the waiter serving the fat guy in the Monty Python movie.  And don't ask which one, cuz I know you know >:D

Such a great selection of music. Surely you must have room for it? It is less than $2 per disc.
It is just one little tiny box of music. Just one....    Voilà!

It is less than $2 per disc... well, if you say that for 5,000 discs...

I'm reminded of an old Bloom County comic where the television (which had a real personality of its own) is shouting "BUY AND SAVE! BUY AND SAVE!". Then it shouts "BUY MORE AND SAVE MORE!".  And so the character watching the television buys hundreds of whatever it is that's such a bargain and goes broke.

I'm not saying the box is a waste of money by any means. But what your bank manager cares about is how much you spent, not what you got for your money!

It's wafer thin ...

Hey, didn't I try to get you to cancel a Wagner box? How can I be more trustworthy?
;)

I don't have that either. I will look at it again. I think it had a lot of dupes for me.

Ok, the DG box is better. Quite spectacular really, but I have at least half the recordings in it, and essesntially all the music, so I am passing. But it's an amazing bargain if you don't have all the dupes.
I have too many dupes of the Sony box too. Also terrific. But Moonfish's box is better.

You got me to cancel the really cheap one and I bought a more expensive one :'(
By the way, the Choral box is cheaper out of English Amazon...

Oooh, look what's out. (I saw it live and thought it was excellent, especially the mind-blowing second act.)

Wagner: Parsifal (Jonas Kaufmann / Daniele Gatti / Metropolitan Opera

I like Jonas Kaufmann very much as Siegmund in Die Walkure.  Would like to see him in Parsifal.  I might consider ordering that as well, especially at that price.

For years, my favorite Mozart's Violin Concertos recording has been Grimaux/Davis. Now, I'm considering adding Lin/Leppard cycle. Is there anyone articulate here who knows both enough to compare? Schneiderhan, Carmignola and Manze are my other less favorites.

Still not quite sure how much I want this. Weinberg fans have any remarks?

Gosh, I wanted to love those. But simply are not as good as I hoped. My favorite combo in Beethoven, by some measure, they don't quite pull the same feat off in Mozart. Very good, mind you... but Manze (3-5) and Mutter II (wacky but fun) are preferred, in my book, as I reckon would be a bunch of others, too.

DavidW

I don't care for Manze as much.  Good but not great.

G. String

Thank you. I have both Zehetmair albums. Bruggen is better than the other one but Manze is superior for me without comparison. So there are no Lin owners here.
