Antonioni retrospective this weekend ...

Antonioni!!!!!!! What will they show?

just curious, do they show the films in Belgrade with English subtitles?

Harry

Kate and Leopold will be my workout movie today!
Rather forgot what the story was, but then there is the surprise element.

"EDISON FORCE"

A stupid movie, full of cliches, with one of the favorite subjects in Hollywood: the corruption in the police and the politicians.
It is nothing but a mediocre action movie. The worst thing about it is that it includes actors like Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman. Probably to make idiots like me buy the DVD. I saw those names and immediately thought that it must be a serious and intelligent movie.
The most irritating is that Spacey and Freeman don't even pretend to be involved in the movie. Freeman acts as if he had just left bed, and Spacey babbles some phrases but he always seems to be thinking in something else.
I call this dishonesty.

Found that entertaining but rather stiff - partly due to the acting of Jackman.

I watched yesterday this film by Woody Allen with Jackman, and on a brighter note: Scarlett Johansson.
Entertaining at best, a bit weird/stuffy in the Woody Allen tradition but mediocre in comparison to some of his other films. Nice to see once, thanks to Scarlett... 8)

It's again very short one, just two days - La notte, L’Avventura, L’Eclisse, Il grido, Blowup, Il desserto roso, Zabriskie Point.

No, Serbian subtitles. Sometimes the films at cinematheque come without subtitles, then they make separate subtitles which get projected on separate small screen right under the film screen.

Excluding the early stuff he didn't make too many films so I wouldn't say that that is very short. It's like a Best Of.......I haven't seen La notte or Il deserto rosso yet, but I thought L'Eclisse rather empty, like he'd run out of ideas. Of course Antonioni films are nearly always "empty" but this one seemed truly barren. I have a feeling Red Desert will be very good though, shame it's not available on UK DVD.

Well, that does brighten up this morning, Harry! ;D

Q

Indeed. If that were his signature, I would re-enable my setting.  ;D

bleh, disgusting. Surely I'm not the only one who finds this excessive airbrushing nasty.

Scarlet disgusting? The photo may be airbrushed, but for a blonde Scarlet is the opposite of disgusting.

Not disgusting, but I am in the minority who does not find her attractive. Too curvey for my taste  8)

I liked this one. An interesting Spanish flim entirely taking place during an interview process for a high profile job where 7 candidates are evaluated with the WTO protests going on in the streets of Madrid in the background. The first half was slightly better, it is hard to get away with a limited space and theme for two hours, so the filmmakers had to deviate a little bit to make it interesting. Still a good effort overall.

That is indeed the matter of taste but the fact is that that picture is airbrushed to death. This better.

That is the point, retrospectives are usually nice because you get the chance to see early or not so famous films. Best known ones pop up here and there almost regularly.

Il Deserto Rosso is visually impressive.

Last night, finished watching Pollyanna w/ Hayley Mills, Jane Wyman, & Richard Egan; had a bunch of Disney films in a multi-disc case, so put in Swiss Family Robinson w/ John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, et al - both made in 1960 (looks like the Mills family was working for Walt about this time) - the latter filmed in Tobago & just a fun watch (great family flick) - amazing what was done w/ all of those animals (probably be CGI these days -  ;) ;D) -  :)

BTW, has anyone seen this British re-make of Pollyanna from 2002?  The overall rating by the Amazonians was 4+*/5* with some preferring the newer production - thanks.  :)

Great movie, although it clearly shows what amateurs the Brits are compared to us when it comes to white supremacist violence.

Yes, that's my point. Really tasteless editing, ruins the picture entirely. A friend of mine in Bxl does this for a living, showed me what he did to Brooke Shields' new-born-baby pictures which appeared in OK or Hello (some British celeb rag). She had to approve the finished picture and apparently asked for just a touch-up, but my god, this "just" removed most if not all the wrinkles around her eyes and smoothed out her skin as if she were half her age. It looked fairly bad, but nothing compared to this crap posted above. And to think it's for a girl in her 20s.
