Ewa Wolak and Janet Baker. Seems like a good morning for contraltos and mezzos.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

organ music of the BACH FAMILY  - 11 other than J.S.
short pieces played on the 1986 Reil organ in Melk Abbey. 2 manua;s and pedal producing a nice variety of sounds
Sergio Militello, organist,  (also gets credit for recording, mixing and mastering)
B.  HERRMANN: Echoes   - Texas Festival Quartet
David SHIRE:  Sonata for Cocktail Piano     - Shire, piano
Ernest GOLD: String Quartet 1 - Picasso Quartet
"Keep your hand on the throttle and your eye on the rail as you walk through life's pathway."

kishnevi

New London Consort led by Philip Pickett playing music by Biber, including the Requiem and the Battaglia a 10.  Plus two other pieces that at points can be called daft...a serenade called "The Nightwatchman" and a sonata a 6 called "The Peasant's Churchgoing".

TheGSMoeller

Schnittke's Choir Concerto performed by the Hymnia Chamber Choir. It's interesting to compare this one to the larger forces of other recordings, which also take their tempos slower. Great piece, one of Schnittke's best

Trying to determine if it is a masterpiece or not :D? A beautiful work, nevertheless. It doesn't get enough attention compared to his stuff from the 1960s. Maybe because it is so much more tonal-oriented? Who knows.

(BTW, it's on disc 3 of the Teldec).
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Yeah, I have the CD...I was just too lazy to take it off the shelf and fire up the player  ;D

Still trying to determine its status: masterpiece or no...

Barber Louisville Summer of 1915
Eleanor Steber Dumbarton Oaks Chamber Orchestra William Strickland cond.
First listen to this work as well as this recording.
I have the nagging feeling that I would enjoy this much more if it was not in my native tongue.  The text (by James Agee) often sounds banal and pedestrian, below the level of the musical expression.  Do German speakers have this problem with some German lieder?
Moving on now to better quality texts:  Hermit Songs, Barber as composer and pianist, Leontyne Price soprano.
