Yes, look into Ansermet's eyes and you know the truth....   ;D ;D
Al looked into Markovina's eyes ... And passed!  I think he should be extra careful not to make another blunder like that one, wouldn't you say, Moonfish?

I do want the DG Bernstein box, but Deutsche Grammophon respects itself, so they are charging a fair (over $100) price, unlike Sony.
Hmmm. Too much self-respect. Hmmmmmmmm. Could this work? Could this actually work?

Hey you, yes you DG!  You snotty-faced heap of parrot droppings! Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, toffee-nosed, malodorous pervert!!!

I might do an A/B shootout comparison between this and Bronfman/Zurich/Zinman. Thanks for the idea!

(My reasoning being, Bronfman is excellent too, has a smallish period-influenced orchestra too, and is only $11.)

Hmm, not sure! I rather look into Markovina's eyes....
Still, I bet Al would get hooked if he gave Ansermet some of his time!!!   >:D

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm scared of. I'll have to do a browse and see if I have any now...I actually don't have much French or Russian stuff, so those boxes do make sense to me, but it has been a wild month of purchasing.  It will take me years to listen to all the stuff I've gotten (recently!).

??? ??? ???
What idea?

By the way, Bronfman is playing in Taiwan in a couple of months. Unfortunately, to see him would cost me about $300 (I'd miss work, have to take a train to the north part of the country, and buy tickets). I guess I'll have to give it a pass...

Hopefully, your kids will share your passion for music!   ::)

Wow, I put that poorly :)  Yeah, I get your idea, I just don't see how it came to be attributed to me.

To be honest, I hardly know this pianist, but I seem to recall Todd speaking very highly of him, and you know, when Todd speaks (about a pianist), I listen.

You hardly know Andsnes? His Grieg concerto on EMI is one of The Greats, really flawless. He has an affinity for Grieg, Mozart, Schubert, and chamber music. These were his first Beethoven recordings.

And do not forget Rakhmaninov or Schumann! (Fantaisie, Sonata no. 1)

Do you know how many great pianists there are ??? Hardly a day goes by I don't hear of another great pianist (violinist, composer, conductor, opera, symphony, etc) I had never heard of before.  Just yesterday I bought a 50 CD sampler box of piano music.  4 or 5 names on there I didn't even recognize, and many more I had only minor acquaintance with, but are unquestionably great. It is endless ???

Is Al shooting pianists again?
Dammit Al, we discussed this.

Nelson Goerner plays Schumann's Kreisleriana, Symphonic Etudes, and Toccata Op 7.

And I'm really excited about this:

A. Piazzolla (1921-1992)
Four Seasons of Buenos Aires
'Cuatro Estaciónes Porteñas' (1965-1970)
(arr. by Leonid Desyatnikov for violin and string orchestra)

A. Ginastera (1916-1983)
Concerto for string orchestra opus 33 (1965)

O. Golijov (b. 1960)
Last Round for double quartet and bass (1996)

Candida Thompson; Amsterdam Sinfonietta
