Surprised you don't own this Haitink set already, erato. Anyway, definitely one of the great Shostakovich cycles and one of my favorites.

I figured if I'm gonna do it, I might as well get more than one to get going.

Very interested in what you think of the Dussek. The Ring is great - yeah the orchestra sounds a bit like in the bathtub, but the singing is glorious.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

That's a fine set, just hope the notes are as good as in the single issues.
If different, the originals are still available for download at the Hyperion site.

Gentlemen thank you for this.  I really do not know what is included in the packaging. I have the Schubert set by Hyperion and am quite pleased with the information (translated songs book) provided.

Interesting assortment. I'm curious to learn how you like the Nyman when you get to it.

Bought three recordings from Bedford's Britten series that I didn't own:

Must be the steal of the year! I bought mine 20$ canadian, plus postage, came to 24$ (22$US, or 15 youros). At 15.79 US + postage it would have come near 35$ canadian (Amazon.com charges outlandish fees when not delivering to the contiguous 48  ???).

Having prime in the US I paid 15.79 shipped :o
Yeah, Amazon US is pricey in Canada. My relatives sometimes ship to me and I mule stuff across.
If you want to ship stuff to me and collect it in Toronto, knowing it has been thoroughly inspected and tested ... ;)

Good Requiem, but the worst performance I've ever heard of the piano concerto (and I've heard a lot of them). Crude and insensitive.

+1 Yeah, not a good Piano Concerto performance at all. My reference remains Postnikova/Rozhdestvesnky on Erato (reissued on Warner Apex).

Saw this used in my local store today and considering today's Bartok recommendations I figured I should take it home with me!   8)

I think Bluebeard is incredibly beautiful, but I wonder if it's a piscine friendly score. My girlfriend hates it. Curious to hear your reaction ...

Excellent, Moonfish! I don't own this Sawallisch performance surprisingly. Let me know what you think of the work. My favorite performance, of the recordings I own, is Ludwig/Berry/Kertesz on Decca. Outstanding performances all-around.

Well, good, I'll be happy to read your impressions about the opera 8)
I don't own this version either, you've found kind of a rarity (but I've heard good things about it).

I can't say the same about Kertész. I mean, it's a nice, cozy, pleasant, comfy version, and superbly recorded. But there's more to Bluebeard's Castle than that.  I prefer Boulez with Troyanos and Nimsgern (CBS/Sony). And, above all, there's a 1981 performance with the same singers and the NYP conducted by Rafael Kubelik that sweeps any competition (the issue being if you listen to it a few times, you might have difficulties hearing any other version afterwards).

The new erato

I ordered these from europadisc. Harry's newfound enthusiasm reminded me that I don't have the complete Arnell series:

Naxos 8573098: Hummel - Piano Trios Vol.1
Dutton - Epoch CDLX7194:  Arnell - Symphonies Nos 4 & 5
Naxos 8573243: Villa-Lobos - Symphony No.10 'Amerindia'
