Good morning on this stormy and dark day, it promises to get a bad day in terms of the weather.
Some solace then.

I like that Marcello set as wel, Harry! :)

Morning listening on my day off - from my BRO haul:

A purchase that was long overdue and will complement nicely the 4-part Vaet series on Ars Musici by the Dufay Ensemble (Freiburg).

Gosh I did not know she died, what a loss, such a fine musician. I have many recordings with her.
May she play with all the greats now. RIP

That Schiefendecker disc look intriguing BTW  :)

Listening to this new purchase, which sounds awesome - thanks Drasko, for pointing it out! :)

Beethoven's 'Spring' Sonata played by Lili & Willi. Sound is slightly worse than I expected, I'm guessing Salle Adyar was out of potatoes that day and had to record on radishes instead. Playing is pretty good though. (I'd probably recommend this pair over most of the big names in Beethoven sonataship.)

I used to play this with a friend of mine (I'd play the piano part and he'd play the violin part). A fun piece.

Gee, soooo many of us enjoy modern and contemporary classical--- I thought it was a dying art!  I guess not... Anyway, I keep returning to John Cage music for prepared piano (Bermann on Naxos). Fascinating stuff, listenable as focused art, meditative, or (gasp!) "background".
A dying art? Not in my house!
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

REZNICEK: Raskolnikoff – Phantasy Overture  22:40  Schlemiel – a Symphony Life Story
Nobuaki Yamamasu, tenor   WDR Symphony Orch. Köln   Michail Jurowsky, cond.
The Raskolnikoff stands on its own, like Tchaikowsky's 1812 or Tempest.  If it were a prelude to a larger work I would fear something Proustian in length to follow.
BIBER: The Rosenkranz Sonatas
Susanne Lautenbacher, violin with Rudolph Ewerhart, portative, harpsichord
Johannes Koch, viola da gamba
Good, brief notes with this set describing the pieces and the tunings.
And for Friday, VIERNES day, 12 Preludes for Piano op. 38 played by Antoine REBOULOT plus his own Five Preludes.

My first classical vocal recording from 25 years ago is The Song of the Earth. Picked it out from a bargain bin because back then I liked Mahler. This is most likely a sentimental attachment. This is Bruno Walter with little name Miller and Hafliger on Sony. The only CD I would never part with, but this is most likely not entirely rational nevertheless I encourage those with streamers to sample.

My first classical album period came from the bargain bin : Dorati conducting the New World, 99 cents at J M Fields Discount Dept. Store.  (I also bought my beloved Telefunken radio/record player there, RIP).  I remember starting to look through the pile thinking, I'm not gonna find anything in here... I wonder sometimes if it wouldn't be wise for the classical recording industry to release bargains in different venues, aka 'loss leaders,' to gain new recruits.  While the price points may not make it esp. worthwhile for retailers, my experience sez humans are creatures of habit (CDCDCD)and if you get them buying something at your shop they'll get interested in something else as well.
