Well, the concept is grindhouse films. Have you seen any grindhouse films? As far as the '70s vibe, I think he totally nailed it--and I dig that vibe. I haven't seen any grindhouse films so you'll have to tell me whether he nailed it or not. I mean, in a way, it was supposed to be mindless--that's the concept: mindless violence and sex and a bunch of craziness.
Yeh, it has the 70's vibe and he nailed it, i know all mention the grindhouse films, but that is no excuse for a bad movie and a vibe doesn't make a good movie.
About being mindless, gory, etc, the evil dead series for instance are all about that but it's funny and Ash is a classic character.

This did nothing for me, i enjoyed the beginning, i was digging Kurt Russell's character, he had some good lines , looked badass and all, cool car, but other than that, there wasn't much to it, all the other characters didn't say anything worthy, yeh the girls looked good. the gory parts were fine, but i mean, this movie is all about dialogue and most the dialogue isn't worth watching it.
Reservoir Dogs and Pulp fiction were all about the dialogue too, but full of great lines, i must have seen pulp fiction at least 15 times, i know all those lines, just great diologue.

This was just a huge disapointment, i didn't like Kill Bill that much but at least it was entertaining, this one not even that.

And I liked this better than Kill Bill. Go figure. :)

The Emperor

Well i don't remember much of Kill Bill anymore, i remember being dissapointed aswell, but not as much as this one, i was actually excited to see this one.
Anyway, just a movie....but i won't get my hopes up for next Tarantino movie, he can't fool me no more ;D

Next month, I'll be watching the other half...

SonicMan46

Just returned from a too short trip to Wrightsville Beach near Wilmington, NC - the hard drive on my IBM laptop 'took a dive' a few weeks ago, so no computer in the room - lot of 'catching up' to do!  :)

The Holiday Inn there was recently renovated w/ the addition of HDTV flat panels, so watched a couple of flicks!

Knocked Up (2007) - enjoyed this one for the most part; could have done w/o the 'bathroom' humor & the roomates - seems like a lot of 'new' comedies have resorted to this approach (guess I'm too old -  ::)) - however, this film was really well received, 4* rating on Netflix (I gave it a 3* there) & 91% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes w/ a 7.8/10 overall viewer rating - those are good numbers - but, did like looking at Katherine Heigl:D

Surf's Up (2007) - not great but another enjoyable animated film - really impressed w/ the animation; 77% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes w/ 6.7/10 for the viewers - not too bad; gave it a 3* rating on Netflix.  I guess my recent favorite in this genre is Ratatouille, which I plan to buy on DVD when released!   8)

Junebug

Though promoted as a quirky comedy about culture clash it is really quite an emotionally devastating film, with a few laughs thrown in.Recommended.

Lady Chatterley

The Emperor

Curb your Enthusiasm S6E3 hilarious ;D

I don't really like many movies, but this one is kind of nostalgic for me:

It was probably my first experience of something surreal - rather than just horror-themed.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

you're gonna have a lot of aggression to release over the next few days!  ;D

Kullervo

Surprised at the amount of negative reviews for this, I thought it was brilliant. Stunning performances all around, especially from a young long-haired Keitel. The way the director makes it seem that things happening at different points in time are happening at once reminds me of Last Year at Marienbad. Excellent movie.

That looks very interesting!  Although I haven't seen much of Roeg's recent work (just looked him up on IMDB), one of his films, Don't Look Now, is one of my alltime faves.

Hector

'Identity' made in 2003, I think.

About a group of people holed up in a tacky motel on a stormy night and getting bumped off one by one in hideous circumstances.

Anyway, it turns out that they are all the multi-personalities of a serial killer facing execution unless his lawyer and psychiatrist (Alfred Molina) can persuade a judge that he was not responsible for these killings.

Michael Rivers, the mass-murderer, has to 'kill' his other 'personalities.'

Two of the other 'personalities' are John Cusack and Ray Liotta.

I will not reveal the ending, a twist - as usual, but I do not need to watch this again.

Interesting in the sense that it is part documentary part fiction but you don't know which parts are which. But the subject matter is so disengaging (a musical staged in Pittsburgh) that the premise is born dead  :-\

ps-If anyone decides somehow to make a movie about Rachmaninov, Goldblum is da man!  $:) They look strikingly alike from certain angles.

Anything that reminds anyone of Marienbad is nothing if not tempting (how's that for a crap sentence?) :) I will see if this is available here.

enjoyable. must have been thrilling when it first came out. thanks Drasko :)

Haffner

Lots of movies lately!

Faustina- Very good movie about Saint Faustina and her mystical visions of Jesus. For Catholics, of course. The acting here is often spectacularly good.

Wrong Turn-Spooky fun, with some exciting action.

Mother Teresa (Olivia Hussey)-Often excellent acting, but of course I wanted more of her life.

Hell Of A Living Dead- Andy (me) continues to be deeply frightened by the "Zombie Mythos", and this movie (though terribly acted, edited, and written) has the usual effect. The idea of the dead walking and eating people disturbs me in the most profound way. It's my own vision of Hell.
