serene, funny, subtle, this is a brighter side to the Kiarostami I've seen so far.

Dovzhenko's Earth -- beautiful. Now I know where Sokurov got the inspiration for this shot from (the one in Earth looks identical, albeit without the solitary figure)

stunning presentation of an old subject. I thought it wandered off a little in the last third, but for his first film, quite amazing. Colour of Pomegranates next :)

"KAGEMUSHA"  / Akira Kurosawa

A movie with an extraordinary beauty, even in the most tragic scenes (the bodies of dead horses and soldiers in the end of the battle) and a greatness that reminds Shakespeare. The actor that plays Shingen, the Lord of War, and his double is also remarkable.

It is incredible how Japan didn't want to produce this movie.

those of us who know that your favourite film is The Gosepl according to St. Matthew are not surprised you think it went too far

Yes, but Pasolini's movie is the only religious movie I really love. And what I said regarding Life of Brian is not a religious matter: it would be the same if someone did a joke - even if it is very good - on nazi's concentration camps, the bomb in Hiroshima or any other moment in the long History of human cruelty and bestiality.

This said, I prefer a thousand times the approach of the Monty Python to Mel Gibson's repulsive exhibitionism of sadomasochism.

remarkable. perhaps the most amazing film i've ever seen.

A Bergman movie where all conversations take place face to face. Where people actually draw chairs to sit right across that other person and do nothing but talk and at least try to understand each other.
I think it was a deserving farewell film from him.

I saw KNOCKED UP over the weekend. I enjoyed it but it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. Then again, it probably wasn't trying to be.

Faustina: I guess that this movie is best for Catholics. Very good Polish movie with more than adequate acting.

Seventh Seal: Demi Moore does an impressive acting job here, considering the at times sloppily unravelled storyline. More than a couple of very creepy parts in this one. Good.

Soul Survivor: I guess this is borderline Catholic as well. I wasn't wild about the female lead, her angst ridden face wore on me after awhile. But there were some good things about this chiller; fair-to-good.

As pretty as Moore is, I thought she looked pretty damn creepy as a GI!

Gandhi.

That's a long and nice film to watch, though I have not the patience Ben Kingsley has, I must say! :)
