D. 810. A work I love to pieces. Here's a neat, scrupulous, spic-and-span account with plenty of drive and spot-on accuracy. Lest that sound like faint praise, I shoud  add I like a laser beam approach to this work.

live last night  Vancouver Symphony playing the WAGNER-MAAZEL Ring Without Words +LISZT Les Préludes
Audience loved it, loud enough for hearing aids to be turned off.  Maybe not the greatest performance but I appreciated the opportunity to hear it live  8 horns, 4 doubling on Wagnerian tubas, even the strings were expanded with an extra desk in each section (and the enhanced sound of the violas particularly nice.   Bramwell Tovey conducting as part of a series on the Classics vs Romantics - Brahms/Wagner with a pre-concert talk and a short intro before each for those who skipped them.   If you have the Telarc CD, the score can be seen  ( and downloaded)at  http://www.schott-music.com/shop/9/show,158361.html
today: GLAZUNOV Symphony no. 4 and Michael GOLDSTEIN aka OVSIANIKO-KULIKOVSKY Symphony no.21  which I quite enjoy in its fake-Classic style

Such a great recording.

The lack of Othello is a bit silly when the liner notes even tell you that it's a triptych. Completist that I am, I remain faintly amazed at how many recordings split the 3 overtures when they are so connected as to even share musical themes.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Love that recording.  :)

DECCA can be excused here. Othello won't fit on the second cd whereas the Scherzo Capriccioso will. They probably wanted to fit Othello instead of the Scherzo. Already you are getting 2 cds each running 80minutes or so.

If you want all three you can get them cheaply on this set:

Sadly Kertesz didn't record The Wood Dove nor A Hero's Song, otherwise it is pretty complete.
