btw didn't you find some kind of Chinese clone of the Oppo?

Yes, I have a "Chinoppo" with no disc player.

Quote from: Atriod on December 05, 2023, 12:22:34 PMGotta find where my black mascara and lipstick are to get in the mood for this when the box comes out. Knowing just how good some of these sound via streaming with BIS' incredible recording quality, it's going to be even better cranking this up.

The sound is so layered and detailed.  There are definitely elements of these symphonies that I couldn't hear in other recordings.

I recently sold my aging Esoteric CD/SACD player and bought a Mark Levinson No.5101--wow! It sounds at least as good if not better, and loads discs, especially SACDs, much faster.

(The device sitting on top is my Chord DAC. I still use it for streaming and downloaded files.)

A fine SACD player. Heard it recently and was amazed, but it does not not top my Esoteric Grandiose. Still a very good high end player. Congrats.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Probably not, but at a fraction of the cost, it's a great bargain. I loosely considered an Esoteric K-03XD, but it was still too expensive, especially since I bought a gently used dealer demo ML and saved an additional $2600! We've had massive vet bills (around $10,000), had to have a new garage door installed ($4800), and the electrical panel replaced ($5200), so I couldn't justify spending any more money than I did.

I finally got fed up with whacking my NAD amplifier with the fire poker to get it working, so I have ordered a Cambridge Audio amplifier to replace it (delivery next Tuesday).

Very good choice! Keep the NAD in case you need to get rid of frustration, and have to use the poker ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I quite understand my friend.

Congrats!  I'd still talk to a repair person though to see if s/he thinks it might be worth taking a look at to see if it's repairable.

Speaking of repairs, the first person that I brought by DVD/SACD, etc. player to to look at said that he couldn't repair it and suggested that I either get a new one or check out the used market.  I might try calling and talking to another repair person in a different state and see what they think (They are a bit of a haul away though).  In the meantime, I brought my old Technics CD player down from my study and a friend helped me get it set up in my better stereo system, so I'll at least have something there to get me running for the time being.  We also hauled the cabinet back into place--a lot easier said then done!  ;)

Hope to listen to music later; busy day taking holiday lights down and packing them up (boxes still need to be stowed away).

It plays all my audio and video via USB, just like my real Oppo did.

I don't play disks, I rip them to drives. I then organize the files alphabetically by type, like movies and collections for TV stuff. I have a separate 4K category, too.

With all music and video under one regime everything can be accessed in a few seconds. All I have to do is rip new stuff when it comes and slot it in where it belongs.

I should have googled.  It seems that "Chinoppo" is a actual brand name, but I can only find info in Spanish.  Hmmm.

So does it play ripped SACD and blu-ray isos and have multi-channel output?  What about multi-channel FLAC?

Yes, for Lucy: blood tests, ultrasound, x-ray, endoscopy, pain/anti-nausea/anti-diarrheal medications, and her eventual euthanasia. We spent another $1000 on Ethel, but that was after I bought the Levinson.

Wow, was that all within one year?  I hate to think of what I spent on my cats over the years; I have never added them up (but did also have to make the hard decisions, upon discussion with various vets and specialists as to what I thought was within my budget and also asking questions and trying to understand as to how effective the treatments, etc. might be and whether or not it/they would improve my cat's quality of life...or possibly make it worse...like any pet owner).

From June 15th to September 6th, Lucy's last day. Damn, just typing that makes my eyes tear up.

Has anyone heard MBL speakers with classical? I never had them on my seriously consider list because at audio shows they always play electronic music and way too loud to get a feel for how they really sound. After catching up with an online friend whose hearing has never led me astray, he told me he was extremely impressed with the 101 he heard in an owner's home, and he is also primarily a classical listener. The descriptors we was using was checking all the right boxes. Then I did a search on ASR and found a thread where MBL were discussed last year and two people that know classical music really well said nearly identical things to what my friend said. 101e are in my budget for new speakers.

If I had the FU money for MBLs, there are a lot of speakers at, say, 10% of the price that I'd try first, at least to get a broader idea of what kind of sound I could get in my room.  Brands like KEF, kiiaudio, Dutch & Dutch, Revel, and the larger Genelec or Neumann models.  Also, I'd put a lot of money into the room acoustics.
