John Adams is considered the musical voice of America. His tonal language is at once unmistakable and of infinite variety. Minimalism mixes with imaginative orchestration and a jazz-inflected spirit to create a cosmos full of energy and colour that constantly reveals new facets. In a unique transatlantic partnership, John Adams has accompanied the Berliner Philharmoniker for a whole season as composer in residence. The orchestra performed a wide variety of his works, from the oratorio "The Gospel According to the Other Mary" and the famous "Harmonielehre" to more unfamiliar treasures. The concerts were conducted by chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle and outstanding guests: Gustavo Dudamel, Alan Gilbert and Kirill Petrenko. In the course of this partnership, John Adams himself also made his debut as conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Robert Smith Telemann. This makes three recordings now of this newly discovered music.

This one is in my amazon shopping cart.  Has anyone heard it?

Correction: John Adams's is one of the few musical voices America gets to hear.

Actually, the publisher seems to have revised the copy to read "John Adams is one of the USA's most important musical voices."

I'd say that's fair.

On the other hand, the phrasing John Adams is considered the musical voice of America is true to the amount of oxygen he is accorded.  I hope my gasping doesn't bother the Grand Man.

Now you're subscribing to a zero-sum mentality, any oxygen (attention) he gets is effectively subtracted from the supply of oxygen available for other composers. Maybe he's bringing more attention to classical music and actually helping classical composers at large?

I like your optimism!  I'll report if any of that trickles down to me.

Not a matter of trickling down, but of puffing up the tent. He sells tickets that keep the lights on at venues where you would like to perform, and maybe gives concert producers the notion that contemporary music can draw an audience.

Anyway, I don't know how much attention he gets. If not for GMG I would never have heard of him, and I'll admit to enjoying some of his music.

Is Naxos' release schedule light in December? We've usually got most of the "upcoming releases" posted here well before now.

Yes. I pull from their distributor database, and they usually upload, for instance, December releases in mid-October. (So I guess 6 weeks ahead.) For some reason, the December guide currently only shows Naxos, Bridge, Brilliant, and a couple tiny labels. I've posted what I could already over the last few pages, and check in every week or so to see if they're catching up yet. Surely there will be much, much more - IIRC Oct-Dec is the big release drop period because they want you to buy all of them for Christmas.

EDIT: Quick link to what we know so far

The musical voice of America? I thought that would have been Aaron Copland or The Beach Boys.

An Il trittico for the Tinder generation, THREE WAY is a new opera on the present and future of sex and love with music by Robert Paterson (The Whole Truth) and a libretto by David Cote (The Scarlet Ibis). In three playful one-acts, average heroes explore the worlds of android lovers, BDSM and multiple partners in their searches for the emotional connections that are ever-elusive in today's romantic world. This release is the original cast recording, featuring the Nashville Opera conducted by Dean Williamson. "Nashville Opera has secured for itself a place among important regional companies." (American Record Guide-Opera Everywhere) The Nashville Opera Association is a professional opera company in Nashville, Tennessee and is a member of OPERA America. The company currently offers four fully staged opera productions and the On Tour educational outreach program during an annual season which runs from October through April. Performances are offered at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Downtown Nashville and the award-winning Noah Liff Opera Center in the Sylvan Heights section of West Nashville.

I read that this was rather stupid in the treatment of the topic at hand..........  :-\

Anyone planning on getting it?

I live in Sylvan Park and know exactly where the Noah Liff center is, right around the corner.  I can't believe this opera is in Nashville.   But I am not interested in the description.

This is too true! It seems rather sad, as an outsider, to be hearing about fantastic European performances of American composers barely heard in the States. Same goes for Australian composers..........the most successful Australian composer I can think of is rarely performed in her own country.
