You should have the honour of bringing it to the relevant thread, because I took one glance at it and thought 'that belongs on the thread about terrible artwork'.

I like that Channel Classics cover - the colors, the curve of the double bass and the female that rises out of the double bass.  Good job!

So, there it is, finally... :)

Q

Being an uncompromising collector of Brandenburg recordings , I have of course preordered this..  8)

I was not quite convinced by their recent CD with Bach violin concertos, and I think it is hard to believe, that their new recording of the Brandenburgs will surpass their first recording from the Bach year.

Almost lost hope there would be a sequel!  :)

Q

Excellent disk, although I must confess that Melnikov's instrument has fooled my ears at the beginning.

I thought it was a modern piano: not a modern grand Steinway, but a Bösendorfer or something like that.  :)

After acquiring the superb set by the Linde-Consort, I have decided to do a hiatus in acquiring new versions of these concertos.

BTW, did you listen to the violin concertos performed by Mullova and Dantone's ensemble?  :)

Loads of interesting recordings coming out in February and March, but this one has especially caught my eye:

Coincidently, this recording comes out my birthday (March 10th). Pretty excited about this release because I've been hearing Salonen conducts a great Bluebeard.

Long out of print, this complete set of Beethoven's Piano sonatas by pianist / composer Michaël Levinas is back in the catalogue. It seems to be much cheaper in Europe (€35 at amazon.es) than in America ($124 at amazon.com, and "temporarily out of stock" to boot)...

Ludwig van Beethoven: 32 piano sonatas - Michaël Levinas (9 Cd's, Adès)

Of Levinas' Beethoven, I only know the Mondschein, the Waldstein, the Appassionata and the Hammerklavier (which are included in an interesting 11-CD set called "Double Face" that covers Levinas' activity both as composer and pianist).

I find Levinas' Beethoven quite convincing (not that I'm an expert, by any means  :-[ ), and was particularly impressed by his Waldstein...

Good to see it back in print, if perhaps only fleetingly (?).  It is indeed an excellent cycle - Levinas does the composer-pianist tradition proud.

Splendid. Thanks so much for the information. Already integrated: http://ionarts.blogspot.com/2009/06/beethoven-sonatas-survey-of-complete.html

More Prokofiev from Gergiev...
For those interested in digital purchases iTunes has it available for pre-order at $6.99. Samples sound good, nice detail from the wood winds, good bass presence, and plenty of groaning and moaning. ;D

Coming in April.  I have all of her EMI stuff except the Liszt First and Schumann concertos.  Should I go for it just for those?

Does it contain all her EMI stuff, f.i. Beethoven sonatas and Mozart concertos?

It is billed as the complete London studio recordings, and all the LvB sonatas are included.  I have the 4 disc set with all those, so I don't need that, but I double checked, and it includes her Mozart 27, too, which I do not have.  If the remasterings are new, it might be worth it just for the Mozart as the Seraphim remasterings were not great for those.

You know his Hammerklavier was released last month?

The Bournemouth SO and Kirill Karabits are starting a new Prokofiev symphony cycle which will include rarities like the Symphony in G written when the composer was just 11 years old. The Seventh Symphony is being released with the tacked-on "happy ending" placed on a separate track.

Just the 10 seconds on a separate track? I bet iTunes still charges $0.99 for it like they do with the applause from Celibidache's recordings.  ;)

I'd pay $0.99 not to hear it.
