I saw that too. Hard to imagine it is really competitive with the newer sets. Anyone know much about it?

Here you go, Ken!  :)

February 2015 will see the completion of Alan Gilbert's NYPO Nielsen symphony cycle.

Also, a Grand Piano label disc of the piano compositions of Martial Solal, the famous French jazz pianist. Solal himself will perform one track.

"In celebration on Mozart's birthday on 27 January and Sir Neville Marriner's 90th year, Billboard chart-topping violinist Rachel Barton Pine performs the five Mozart Violin Concertos, as well as the Sinfonia Concertante, with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields...Pine continues to perform the complete five Mozart Violin Concertos in a single evening's concert:o :o :o

The Standford is a reissue. I'm really enjoying the Wagenaar sound samples. Leon McCawley doing the Rachmaninov preludes sounds very promising.

"The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Andris Nelsons are very pleased to announce their first compact disc recording, a BSO Classics release pairing the overture to Wagner's Tannhäuser and the Symphony No. 2 of Jean Sibelius. Both works are taken from concert performances earlier this season at Symphony Hall-the Wagner from Maestro Nelsons' inaugural concert as music director on September 27, 2014, the Sibelius from his BSO program of November 6-11."

Indeed, it will:

Personally, I'd like Gilbert to record more Nielsen. It would be nice to have a disc of the concertante works. Hilary Hahn are you reading this? :)

And some people claim that the classical music recording industry is dead or dying.

I noticed that several of those are SACD. The guy in the audio store last week told me it was "a dying format."

YES!!!!! Petrenko in Elgar? That should be interesting and Jurowski in Schnittke? I'm so there!!!!! Where do I sign up?

John, the first time I ever heard Elgar's Second Symphony - ever - was a live RLPO performance with Vasily Petrenko! I remember some of the local press carping about how "un-British" his performance was, but to me that's a good thing. :)

You're so lucky to have heard this masterpiece, especially with Petrenko/RLPO. I don't really care how 'un-British' Petrenko's interpretations are because Elgar's music appeals to ears of all nationalities and, interestingly enough, I was thinking that it's a shame that the British press continue to think Elgar or RVW or Britten is somehow 'their composer'. Again, this couldn't be further from the truth.

These are the same people that claim that classical music in general is dead. Who needs them?!?!? I sure don't.

That's been out in the States since fall.  Now that Nagano is done with the cycle, I'm waiting for Sony to issue a box.

A debut CD from pianist I never heard of before but excerpts played on BBC3 sounded really interesting:
