This Argerich box is not for me either, but it never would have occurred to me to complain about its existence.

ETA: somebody just mentioned the Zinman box on another thread. I am tempted to complain about that one's existence.

Zinman just read your post Pat!

It's now on Spotify:

https://open.spotify.com/album/2OVCPgSbvPMF3dt9Jfw9Ib

I'm listening to the album, and enjoying it enormously. I'm inclined to agree more with Blair Sanderson's "Yay" review at AllMusic than Kate Mollison's "Nay" review over at The Guardian.
The overall style is quite laid back—in the scherzo and finale a bit too much so for my taste, though the softer passages come across well. The scherzo is just plain slow. I will say that this is one of the best "fast" interpretations of the Adagio that I've ever heard, def. superior to Hagen/Arcanto/Raphael/Casals and on a level with Orpheus.

(Actually I would say this interpretation is very similar to that of the Quatuor Festetics, except that they use period instruments, and resembles the Orpheus in the first two movements quite a bit—though they are generally a bit more driven and deviate greatly in the last two movements. The Orpheus plays the scherzo at Presto, whereas Festetics and Kuijkens play it Allegro moderato. The finale in this recording is also a bit more sedate than even the Festetics' interpretation. Undeniably, this recording has the bigger and more resonant acoustic than either. Up to you which one you prefer.)

If you need the duo recordings, why not get just the duo recordings:

Yeah, that's a thought. But I'm a sucker for these big boxes with replicas of the original covers etc. And I'm missing a few solo recordings like Ravels Sonatine and the studio recording of Chopin's third sonata, and both of those aren't easily available separately. And mainly I'm just greedy and want it 'cause it's preeeetty. :D

Artists International subsequently awarded Terry their Outstanding Alumni Award and Distinguished Alumni-Winners Award, resulting in her Lincoln Center recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 2006, and a recital at Carnegie's Zankel Hall in 2008. The critics lavished praise on these performances, describing her 2004 debut as "excellent...," "perceptive...," "sensitive, idiomatic...," "clear, rhythmically secure and solid...," "convincing and vigorous," and "reminiscent of Annie Fischer's way" (Harris Goldsmith, New York Concert Review Summer 2004).

Very cool. 8) Thanks! On an unrelated note, how are you liking Schonwandt's Nielsen cycle so far?

Great news! The second L'Oiseau-Lyre box is to be released!!!!!!   :) :) :) :)

L'Oiseau-Lyre - Classical & Early Romantic   Oct 16, 2015

o   Malcolm Binns' complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas (the first complete recorded cycle on period instruments)

This makes the box mandatory for me and for many others I suppose.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Looks very tasty indeed!

And odd that the Tchaiko includes but the first piano concerto ... the others really don't get played nearly as often as they should - does DG not even own any recordings? (The only one I have is Gilels/Maazel on EMI, plus a third by Ponti.)

CD 27-36 – Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1 -32
Malcolm Binns

I think this is a splendid news, and a sort of happy miscalculation.

I think many people here would purchase this Beethoven set alone (including proper info, liner notes and art) for a price between $50 and $100.

I think they added Binns' sonata cycle to increase the sales of the set as I suspect that many people have plenty of overlap with the Hogwood recordings. A smart move by Universal!  :-\
I am also excited about the release of the Esterhazy Quartet recording of the Mozart quintets!

But it's only two of the quintets?

I only have 2 CDs of overlap (Hogwood Beethoven), so the box might be essential for me.
