Verdi Fans......Ciao, come stai?

Oh I am tempted.....anyone here familiar with this boxset?

  [asin]B07GVX9BPT[/asin]

I am tempted because it is all the operas,in Bluray (great picture and sound), the productions seem for the most part to be traditional with some elaborate staging (maybe not as elaborate as the MET or Covent Garden productions but from what I can tell it is not Regietheatre which I hate.  But how is the singing?, how is the action/acting overall?  Any advice? thoughts impression?

Here's a fairly detailed review of the set, discussing each opera in turn: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/review/B009P6PAM8/R2C2RAVIWDX9JW/ref=cm_cr_dp_mb_rvw_1?ie=UTF8&cursor=1.

Thank you very much for this.  With the exception of 3 operas, most have gotten 4+ stars.  Th price of the boxset is very attractive too.

A quick browse of the web suggests that particular price is a bargain compared to most.

I don't have a Blu-ray player so I'm out of the running.

I have the first 2/3 of the operas, i.e. the first two boxes (the final third I already have most of in other versions). I have only viewed the first three or four operas so far, but I have liked what I saw and heard. Only the occasional big name, but I appreciate the more traditional settings (in contrast to many recent "Euro-trash" versions set in outer space or Nazi Germany). For several of the earlier operas there are virtually no other versions, and others have been deemed the best available. That is not true, however, for some of the major operas where the competition is stiffer.

You can get a blu-ray player for less than half the price of the set. :)

Yes, I know. And every copy I spotted costs way more than that Blu-ray, is my point.

Noted. Though on its own a set of Verdi operas isn't enough incentive to make the switch. I'm not sure what WOULD be, it'll probably take a while yet before I give up on my DVD player. And here in Australia, doing some research on region coding is absolutely mandatory... If I can't play my Danish comedy TV series on it, it's not happening.

Which are those? You make me curious.

Do you already have a true SACD player (meaning one that can play nonhybrid SACDs and the SACD layer of hybrids)? If you don't--I believe Bluray players (or at least some of them) can do that, so you would have that extra capability.
(I don't have a Bluray player.)

Region coding is certainly a nontrivial issue. Not knowing your A/V setup, having both devices is an option.

I find blu-Ray doesn't add much to a comedy or drama television program but can be great for something that is a visual spectacular. An opera, for instance.

Has anyone heard (any of) this?

I love the few recordings of Cerasi's that I have so far (one disc with Haydn, one CPE) and my curiosity is piqued!

Most interesting!  :)
A bit peculiar that she would dive in such an undertaking with (seemingly) limited experience in French harpsichord repertoire? But I will be certainly be checking this out - we need more options in F. Couperin sets!

I gave in ... it's down to 55€ (minus VAT) here:
https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07HB9F4CY/

And regarding Cerasi and French repertoire, early on (debut disc, I think) she made an album with music by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre.

Badehotellet. My Danish teacher (when I had one) introduced me to it. There aren't many things that have both Danish and English subtitles available, which was one factor in buying my own copies, and I thought my parents would like it. They did.

It's never been shown on Australian TV. The multilingual station here thinks you only make dark crime shows. Although Dicte isn't that dark...

Anyway. The main point is that we can only watch my Badehotellet DVDs because we have region-free DVD players. Thanks to an important court decision some years ago, many players in Australia don't have region coding. I'm not so sure though about Blu-ray players.

Any machine that refuses to play discs that I legally bought in Denmark, or ordered from Denmark, because they cannot be bought in this country, is simply faulty as far as I'm concerned.

There are region free Blu-Ray players but, at least in the U.S., for more than the $50 you would pay for an absolutely basic player.

Missed this download/streamable reissue when it came out in October.  Kinda want to hear it now that I know it exists.

It's stuffed with ideas for creating effects and unexpected gestures. I have found Tanski's recording enjoyable, this one by Barto less so

Thanks for the replies, I'll mull over this. At this point I'm more interested in hearing Busoni's ideas than a particular pianist's.
