Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The complete Scheidt vol. 9. This is my third in the series - I have 5 and 8 - and I don't know if it isn't the most successful of the three - some big works, great organ, rapt performances all very colourful, super singing too, colour and variety. I've just ordered 7 in a fit of enthusiasm, and I noticed that on the uk amazon and ebay at least the series is getting hard to find, I had to order mine from France. Maybe I should just order the lot, but it's nice to collect them slowly, let each ine sink in before the next arrives.

What a distinctive musical voice Scheidt has!

It's the name of the composer and the name of the CD label combined which always makes me cringe.

Some Boccherini to combat the heat in my country. Granted he has a sunny character too. :laugh:

This was beautiful, indeed.  Perhaps a little less "warm" than Максим Дмитриевич, but I enjoy it no less at all.

I had the Chailly and but prefer the Ensemble Modern.

Mm, I have both the Abbado and the Chailly . . . but am curious about the Ensemble Modern.

Hindemith, Paul (1895-1963) - Chamber Concertos w/ Stentz & the Ensemble Modern - a little discussion here a few pages ago as quoted above - Chailly (which I also own) & Abbado seem to receive the 'top' reviews, but I'm enjoying this 'up close' and a little more edgy performance - attached a couple of reviews w/ mixed comments for those interested.  BTW, bought a 'used' set off the Amazon MP ($5 + S/H).

Also same composer's Complete Cello Concertos w/ David Geringas and Werner Albert/Queensland SO - already own their Orchestral Music V. 1 and the Kammermusik works are split on two additional boxes (i.e. V. 2 & 3) - Dave :)
