The new erato

I've been notified that this has arrived today  :) in a second office I have in Madrid (and which is much more convenient to use as a delivery address for amazon et al.):

Which means it helps you to keep your purchases secret from your significant other?

Let's just say that that is an added convenience  ;)... The real reason, though, is that I work in a huge (I mean, really huge) office campus (the HQ of my firm), and the internal distribution of correspondence unrelated to business has the reputation of being haphazrd at times. The other office (a small affiliate) is much more reliable in that respect...

As for my significant other, the slowly but surely rising stacks of CDs and books don't go unnoticed by him in the long run...  ;D. I suppose most of us face that problem  ;)...

What do you think, Poju?
Amazing naturally and effortlessly flowing music where every note supports the strong mood (I listened to the CD on Spotify). I had never heard of Mr. Schwantner before. Discovering these great composers makes exploring exciting!  :)

What prevented that from happening Karl?

and it is very nice, but I was looking for something new, and RBP + PI really intrigued me. Always nice to see a fine MI player see the light...  :D

I've been known to listen to piano recordings from time to time.

I'm not sure how much I really needed another recording of the Liszt sonata, especially one that is well-regarded but not anybody's favorite (I wasn't able to find samples). To be honest, I am curious to hear what a digital recording from 1975 sounds like. But who knows, maybe it will become a favorite.

Whilst I don't like the violin concerto as much as the piano concerto, Pelleas et Melisande is a masterwork performed all too rarely! Perhaps not his finest orchestral work, but imo a work worthy of a mozart's 40th type stature...

I can heartily recommend this Pelleas.  The sonics are very vivid.

The other recent Pelleas I want to hear is Saraste.

(About Rachel Barton Pine)

BTW, I don't know if you noticed this fantastic set recorded by her as a member of the Trio Settecento... It's really superb, Gurn:

[asin]B00V872H0K[/asin]
Instruments:
Violin: Nicola Gagliano, 1770, in original, unaltered condition
Violin Strings: Daniel Larson, Gamut Music
Violin Bow: Louis Bégin, replica of 18th -century model
'Cello: 1705 David Tecchler, lent by Christophe Landon
'Cello Bow: Julian Clarke
Treble Viol: Clarke Gaiennie (used for Canone: Ut relevet miserum)
Treble Bow: Christopher English
Harpsichord: Willard Martin, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 1997. Single-manual instrument after a concept by Marin Mersenne (1617), strung throughout in brass wire with a range of GG-d3.
Tuning: Unequal temperament by David Schrader, based on Werckmeister III

This Veracini is, at least, at the same level of the complete Sonate accademiche recorded by The Locatelli Trio on Hyperion, and that's quite an achievement.

I also found great this 4-CD compilation:

[asin]B00FEFOIKY[/asin]
Box Set Includes:
An Italian Sojourn
A German Bouquet
A French Soirée
An English Fancy

one can never have too many recordings of the Liszt B Minor Sonata!

Good to hear from someone who would know! ;)

Just arrived from re-opened BRO:

I had hoped for some HIP stuff from the Classical and Romantic eras, particularly some fortepiano discs... ::)
But it seems that the stock has been on a stand still during the closure/move.

@ Que: I recommend that you check those Tactus disc soon for errors. If this is old stock they could be affected by the "bronzing" problem. I bought a disc with Corelli sonatas played by Gatti etc. from that label a few years ago on Ebay; the disc was still sealed but had deteriorated and was only barely playable. I made a copy and in that way recovered/saved most or all of the contents but it was unfortunate. (And the seller can hardly be blamed with that problem which was 20 years ago.)
