He was one of my great discoveries this year. I love his music, an exception is made for his vocal compositions, really not my thing.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Antonin Dvorak.
Complete Symphonies.
CD 4 from this set.

Chandos recordings, licensed by Brilliant.

Decent performances, cannot say they move me much, but adequately done. As to the sound, not the best Chandos every produced, but well up to their standard. Its sounds a bit heavy handed, missing the lightness which is in these symphonies too.

Quote from: ultralinear on December 15, 2022, 06:22:47 AMThis week BBC Radio has broadcast his 1st and 4th Symphonies "from a forthcoming CD release" which I assume will be on Toccata, though their website makes no reference to this (yet).

I sincerely hope so!!!

That's excellent news. I will keep my eyes open and order it as soon as I can. A big thank you for this good news.

Neat that you have that boxed set.  I've become a bit more familiar with their recordings over the years (just a bit though).  Out of curiosity, have you heard their album Winter Was Hard?  It's a very haunting album...not exactly holiday music for what it's worth.

A real treasure Bauldeweyn is. It was the first I bought from this ensemble, and still a great favourite, despite a lot of opposition in their own ranks.

Kozeluch, Leopold (1747-1818) - Symphonies w/ Marek Štilec & Czech Chamber POP (recent recordings from 2016-18) - the 3 CDs include 12 (in bold below) of the catalogued 18 works (currently listed using Poštolka numbers, after the musicologist Milan Poštolka - Source).

The other Kozeluch symphonies in my collection are Bamert (only 3 all duplicated, so likely will cull out) and Concerto Köln, also duplicated but a single disc in a box of six - a keeper plus period instruments.  Dave :)

P.S. Štilec could do another disc?

I remember hearing the haunting song "Winter Was Hard" by Sallinen during a BBC program.  Believe that it was about Finnish music post-Sibelius.  There was a great animated video that someone had either created and/or linked to it on youtube, but it was taken down.

Here's the music.  I'll see if I can find a translation.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHYVDKGknMk  Not finding it.  No such luck.  If I'm feeling ambitious, I'll type up and send you the lyrics.

Volume 1 of Françoise Choveaux's 3-CD traversal of Darius Milhaud's music for solo piano.

Included here are the Saudades do Brasil, op. 67 (probably the composer's best known solo piano composition), L'Album de Madame Bovary and Trois valses du film "Madame Bovary" (both works carry 128 as opus number), and some smaller pieces.m

Tis evening, time for Christmas music.

Classic CD presents: Music for Christmas.
A diversity of music and performers.

Fun time apart from a few pieces, like Andrea Bocelli, unacceptable this Ave Maria. Some may love it, but I get an indigestion of it. ;D

What do you think, Rafael? Of his work, I really only know the Concerto for Orch well.
