Went head and watched Don Siegel's Invasion of the Body Snatchers again last night.

Kevin McCarthy was never a really big star, but he had talent: at the end he made me believe that the pod people were everywhere!

I've not watched the 1960 film for a while but likely agree w/ your comments - as I recall one of the best parts of the pic was looking at Yvette Minieux - don't believe that I liked the 2002 're-make' w/ Guy Pearce, and remember the same feeling, i.e. starts out well then just bogs down mostly w/ excessive graphics as I recall.  Dave

I do not want to calculate how old Yvette might be today.

In the 1970's, in her 30's, she made a movie called Hit Lady which has its fans  ;)

OH Yvette - such a beautiful young lady back then!  :P

Never saw (and maybe not even aware of..) the made for TV film Hit Lady - available for purchase as shown above and also on Amazon (cheaper) - no streaming option (and doubt a choice on TCM) - love that B&W photo of her looking like a 'Bond Girl' - curious if the TV censors at the time allowed her to appear it such revealing swimwear on air, which would have been fine w/ me!    Dave

"The Time Machine."   (1960)   Based on H.G. Wells.  First half was OK; 2nd half got pretty bogged down.

That, in my memory, matches the original story. HGW presented a very bleak future in that story.

But WTF is the flippin' queen doing in it?

Haven't you heard, she's not the queen anymore.

I've seen something of a backlash against this one, with a number of reviewers having similar views to yours. Nice acting, shame about the story.

I see I already commented on Three Billboards back in January: "baled out about 50 minutes in.  Awful, bullshit writing."

...This led me to a google digression about the confusion between "bale out" and "bail out".

Bad Times at the El Royale
Not without a few flaws, but a very welcomed surprise and overall I enjoyed it. Great acting especially from the legend himself, Jeff Bridges, and Cynthia Erivo who steals the show.

I hated this one. Inelegantly told, from my perspective. Like a Coen brothers movie without the talent, without the skill in storytelling. Overwritten. Overwritten and manipulative. Kind of bitter and flat too.

I only know her from this performance. Any further recommendations?

I liked her in "Unfaithful," and "Under the Tuscan Sun."  She is rather prolific; those are only two suggestions:

A rather heavy drama about several people psychologically damaged by the same gruesome event and their attempts to cope, converging at the eponymous strip-club where their stories play out.

It has interesting idea and the atmosphere is well judged while the story unfolds bit by bit, but in trying to tie it all neatly ends somewhat inelegantly on a flashback, and leaves one of its main characters completely by the wayside.

It's a weird, heavy one for sure. I recall liking it years ago, but haven't seen it since.

Off-topic, strictly speaking (I have not see it in quit a while) . . . but even if one likes the movie, I think, you gotta love Ebert's "but I have seen the future of implausible plotting, and his name is Clive Barker."

A little forced but just about watchable.

In your own home, if that is not in Liverpool.

Darkest Hour.  Gary Oldman pretends to be Winston Churchill.  He's better than John Lithgow in The Crown, but ultimately it is hard for any actor to convince as such a well known historical personage.  The movie looks decent, though the kinetic overhead shots become too much of a mannerism.  Meh.

I have watched some mediocre films recently so I went in search of quality last night with yet another viewing of Three Colours Blue....

.... and I was not disappointed.
