Quote from: JBS on October 14, 2023, 08:11:07 AMJust to be clear: at that point it wasn't connected with the "Aging" CD; I paid $96 for it. I ordered it then because it had dipped under $100.

That's what I assumed.

People justly complain that Amazon's listings are often mangled, and I think it is because they allow marketplace sellers to tinker with them. My theory is that some ham-handed marketplace seller trying to list the "Aging" CD made a typo and they or amazon itself somehow entangled this "Aging" CD with the Blomstedt set. I am fully prepared to receive the wrong CD, but it's worth a shot.

Quote from: Brian on October 14, 2023, 06:37:16 AMOh! I've been there and bought things there, then! It's next to the Musical Instruments Museum, right?

Yes, that's the one. :)

QuoteNow you have me worried about that inventory claim that it was in stock...we'll see and updates shall be provided...  ???

Sorry about that... ::)  But in the past I've been waiting a long time for items purchased on the site that were not in stock and reordered with the distributor but never came. I would inquire if it takes a long time.

I'll slowly work my way through this! I haven't heard many of Haydn's quartets yet.

Quote from: Spotted Horses on October 14, 2023, 07:16:22 AMMy theory is that some idiot marketplace seller in Canada screwed up the listing and that it somehow propagated to amazon.com.

This is pretty much the big problem with Amazon listings. It's frequently very hard to trust them because of the number of instances of things being screwed up. At least with eBay I generally feel I can make an assessment of each seller's trustworthiness in isolation, but with Amazon I find myself distrusting the system as a whole.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Prestomusic order just now

The Mahler is the Second Symphony.

The Mozartists CD includes arias by Schweitzer and Paisiello, a symphony by Kozeluch, and Haydn 44.

The Tharaud is not just Ravel: it also includes de Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain.

Yes, I agree.
Too often the Amazon reviews are for different recordings to the one featured.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Excellent news!  :D

This morning off Amazon

Ordering the Bach CD (hat tip to @Madiel for reminding me of its existence) on its own was almost as much as this triple pack.

Great. I'm still waiting on my amazon order. I noticed that the garbled Aging/Blomstedt listing has listings from amazon.jp and amazon.co.uk tagged on. But still out of stock from amazon proper.

Absolutely did not need another Mahler cycle, but I found a copy of this OOP collectors' edition for under 20 bucks, so had to jump on it...

Quote from: Brian on October 13, 2023, 07:53:50 PMJust bought this from a French website called La Boite a Musique because it seems to have completely vanished off the rest of the internet, and was never readily available at all in the United States. Amazon US, for example, lists reviews of it under some kind of pop album that only costs $12. ImportCDs never got it once. Paid $120 for what apparently was only manufactured in a couple hundred copies. Hope I enjoy it!

I just ordered the Blomstedt box off HMV Japan - one of the few places it hasn't disappeared entirely! No trace of it at the various Amazons, Presto, Europadisc, or JPC. So many great recordings in here - Hindemith, Strauss, Mahler 2, the Nielsen and Sibelius cycles, just to name a few! I'm glad you were able to get it from La Boite a Musique.
So much great music, so little time...

Just ordered this set, used ("very good") and dirt cheap:

I don't really need more recordings of Falla's works, but sneaked in CD3 of this set are Julián Orbón's Himnus ad Galli Cantum and Tres cantigas del Rey (the original Dorian release is more expensive and not easy to track down).

Ouch, I felt this in my bones.

Happened to me last December. I saw that Bernstein's Sony cycle was $10 so I jumped on it, as one does.

Well you got an absolutely killer cycle out of that (completely understandable) momentary lapse of judgment, at least ;D That boxed set was my intro to Mahler ~5 years ago.

I found a cheap copy on French Amazon, fingers crossed...

Success! Just arrived today. It's a beautiful box too, clearly designed by the team that made the Monteux edition - detailed booklet, original covers, album contents listed on the spines for easy reference. La Boite a Musique wrapped the whole package in paper before adding the address.

Hope Spotted Horses and the other recent orderers are having similar luck?

Happy listening!

Mine shipped today from HMV Japan. Shipping turned out to be a good deal pricier than anticipated  >:( but at least it's on its way!
