Got a little carried away.

Leaving very little impression.

Eloquence is really nothing but temptations.

His eightieth birthday is in December.

I love the first one, so I'll have to check out the new one!

I love the first one, which leaves me in two minds as to whether I want to risk a second.

November on Naxos

Wilhelm Grosz was an avant garde composer forced to flee the Nazis; in the UK he turned to pop song writing to earn a living, then moved to the USA and died suddenly on arrival at just age 45.

The Ondine album contains these works. George Walker: Address for Orchestra. George Crumb: A Haunted Landscape. Silvestre Revueltas: La Coronela.

The Presto tracklisting for the Ives album of arrangements, sketches, miniatures, and unfinished works is truly wild. The last track is Ives' orchestral arrangement of Schubert's Impromptu D. 899 No. 1!

Dig me some Faure.  Dig me some Fouchenneret.  A streamer at the least.

This is split into 18 tracks, not 4, split by rehearsal lettering. For example, the first movement has separate tracks for A, B-F, G-K, L-N, and O-S.

SOME MORE NOVEMBER STUFF

The Dvorak disc is the complete Legends and three Slavonic Rhapsodies.

It's time to bring back the GMG Jean Cras Society!:

World premiere recordings of the non-Cras works. "Marcelle Soulage is certainly the least known of the three. A pupil of Nadia Boulanger, teacher, radio producer, and journalist in addition to her work as a composer, she was a founder member of the Groupe Instrumental Féminin in the 1950s. Her Sonata in F sharp minor, written in 1919 when she was twenty-five, reveals inventive qualities that were already very apparent."

98, 94, 90 + Rossini "La scala di seta" overture. I watched a livestream of them doing these works in early 2022 and wrote comments in Haydn's Haus here.

This is music for three oboes, one bassoon, and percussion.

Finally, I just want to point out two things about this release:

First, this must surely be the first time anyone has named a classical piece "Bare-Ass Funk," and the first time "Bare-Ass Funk" has shared a program with hymns and Christmas songs. ("Before anyone is offended...my former student's name is Michael Beres and the title is a pun on his last name." Aw! I wanted people to be offended!) There is also a piece named after his amateur baseball team.

Second, the "Lake Wobegon Brass Band" must be one of the few musical ensembles ever to hail from a fictional place. It's a British-style brass band based in Minneapolis and named after the town from Garrison Keillor's novels and radio stories.

Madiel

I might have to check out the Dvorak, I don't yet own the rhapsodies and I'm a little underwhelmed by my Legends recording.
