Never directly, that is, I've never owned a first-pressing CD and a remaster at the same time.

And the only instance where I have (at two different times) owned both a first-pressing CD and its corresponding remaster was Duke.  I ditched the first pressing almost immediately, as there were guitar lines which were near nonexistent;  and the subsequent remaster is brilliant  0:)

Count me a geek. Mid 90's remasters seem to be reasonably safe. Nowadays it's just loud.

A shame. I would have bought that original Duke from you in a minute. I'm still after a copy, actually. I like the early CDs because they sound more like LPs - warmer, not as loud, better dynamics and usually no noise reduction.
