Have you heard Hugh Bean with Boult? And Hahn with Davis?

Yes I have and I like both performances, but Brown/Marriner is still my top choice in this work.

Agree.  I too have both recordings.  A young Iona Brown was also a bit prettier than Hahn ...    :)

I'm not sure if I agree with this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I actually think Hilary Hahn is incredibly attractive. She has this aura about her that transcends the purely physical, but, as with anything, this is just a matter of what attracts you to someone else.

Hilary Hahn is just a bit gawky looking, a comment made by another GMG member a few months ago.  But then beauty and talent do not always go together ...

Good call.

Also, she composes brilliantly-crafted cadenzas for the Mozart concertos.

I'd have to agree w/ the others - Julia Fischer is indeed beautiful (just added a favorite pic of her above along w/ Brian's example) - Hiliary Hahn is indeed cute but I've always been bothered by her nose - HEY, just me I guess; as Stuart stated 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' - BUT, there are currently some quite gorgeous young female violinists around these days - all the best for us 'horny' classical music lovers! -  ;) ;D

I don't know about that... I must say, I haven't seen Fischer in person (while I have seen Hahn many times), but in all pictures I have seen of Fischer, she looks like a little girl wearing too much of mom's makeup and having stolen mom's high heels which look like they are at least three sizes too big for her.

Neither Fischer nor Hahn strikes me as being a great beauty.  Maybe the most remarkable thing about them is that they can play the violin well?

In the Hahn vs Fischer debate, I vote for Hahn. She has a Mona Lisa-like appeal to me:

I've seen many attractive young violinists live: Mutter, Chung (in the 70s, 80s), Hahn, Fischer, Batiashvili,  Steinbacher, Chang, Janine Jensen. But to my eyes the most attractive is Alina Pogostkina.

Although very active on the concert circuit she's not as well known as the others because she hasn't made many recordings yet. Here she is performing the Prokofiev Second:

Sibelius Violin Competition in Finlandia House, Finland 5 years ago. Hearing (and seeing!) that performance on TV got me interested of Prokofiev. I am disappointed her victory in that competition didn't lead to active recording career. She seems to have recorded hardly anything.

Yes, a very attractive woman with a mystique about her which I find appealing.

Hahn benefits substantially from glamour shots.  In person, she's not especially attractive, or at least she wasn't last fall.  Her playing is superb though, which is far more important.

And though she plays the viola, I find Jitka Hosprová easy on the eyes, at least in her glamour shots.  I don't know if she's a great violist.
