Solitary Man (2009) w/ Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon, et al - great cast; Netflix rental - love the two main stars but found Douglas' character annoying and the story rather boring - we turned off the flick - guess I'll have to put on Romancing the Stone or Bull Durham, still several of my older favs w/ those two actors - concerning reviews, quite mixed on Amazon & just below 3 on Netflix - worth a try for Michael & Sarandon fans -  :-\

Horatio Hornblower - the A&E series; well I DO like this project - watch it about twice a year and was time!  :D

Just noticed a LOT of specials listed on those Hornblower discs - will have to take a look -  8)

Great film!

Thanks George, my wife and I want to see that.  Did you catch Shutter Island?  I thought that one was magnificent, and had some great music in it too!

Watched The Girl Who Played with Fire, and I must say it's a dud.  Gone is the fast pace, nifty visual style, and novelty of the first movie.  Instead, the plot moves slowly, there's no suspense, the plot twists and some of the characters are downright ridiculous, and some of the action is laughable.  If this is even remotely close to the book, the book must be garbage.  The whole thing plays out like a low rent episode of Law & Order: Stockholm or something.

No, I didn't see Shutter Island. I usually don't see big blockbuster films at all. I am very glad I made an exception for Inception, though.

Todd: I thought the same thing.  But I also thought the same thing about the novel.  Guess I'm just not a fan.

George: Shutter Island features Penderecki's 3rd = awesome. 8)

I watched Top Secret after the good reviews here a few days ago.

Watched the first half hour of this. Any movie with "and time permitting FRANK SINATRA" is all right by me!

I actually just watched Shutter Island! I really enjoyed it too, but I thought some of the music was quite intrusive and poorly edited (for example loud bombastic music ending really abruptly). I think there was some Scelsi in there?  :)

Yeah it's a decent movie, but I like the novel better.

Tonight (Halloween) I look forward to watching Naomi Watts in Her Underwear The Ring!

If you're gong to watch Funny Games; please don't settle for the American version, which is substandard in nearly every facet.

Scarpia

Saw "An Education" about a British school girl who gets swept off her feet by a pair of Ravel-loving con men.  At one point there is a concert with a Ravel piece with a harp and five or so other instruments.  Probably the Ravel Introduction and Allegro.  I assume I have a recording of the piece somewhere, but I'm not sure.  The film was ok, not a mind blower.  The peak into life half-a-century ago was interesting.

I felt that the acting of the two leads was pretty amazing.
